When I started my first internet business, even though I had never done it before and had no idea how to do it, my goal was to eventually make a million dollars a month income. At the time I was waiting tables.
One of my friends, a construction worker at the time, started the same internet business I did at the same time, selling the exact same products and services.
His goal was to sell enough products so that he could order his own products to use for free and in the end maybe pocket fifty dollars a month positive cash flow. Needless to say he actually quit the internet/network marketing business only three months into it.
He thought it would be easy, wasn't getting anything for free, and he was not making fifty bucks a month. He was going $300 dollars a month in debt trying to market the business.
He is back working sixty hours a week, stopped trying any outside business ventures, and is telling everyone he knows about what a scam network marketing is. While he was doing all this I grew several successful internet and network marketing businesses.
We both started with the same resources, money, knowledge, experience, etc. The only difference between the two of us is our mindset and my ability to think big even when I do not see a clear path to my goal or immediate results.
I also know the importance of writing out a clear, specific goal for my business and to spend time reading it out loud to myself everyday, this helps keep me in line, take action, and it helps reassure me that big things are possible.
He set a specific goal, a tiny one, but he did not write it down or focus on it, he merely wished it. That won't make anything happen, even making fifty bucks a month.
Honestly what business owner aspires to make fifty bucks a month? I love my friend , but he needs a serious head check. His attitude will keep him right where he is, working week to week for a small paycheck.
Most people will tell you to keep your goals in line with what you can achieve and make them small enough that they are realistic for you. That is B.S. When you come up with a goal, make it so big it would blow your mind if you achieved it.
If you examined most people and their goals you would find that they have achieved their goals, but their aspirations are so tiny they live in mediocrity. Successful entrepreneurs and business owners are not meant for mediocrity.
Professional marketers know how to see a huge reward that action, faith, persistence, patience and vision can bring about. They are able to challenge themselves and set and achieve their goals time and time again with each business they start.
