The Golden Retriever is well-known for its handsome, well-built, and proportioned body type. With its medium-length, cream to golden-colored water-repellent coat, powerful muzzle and kindly eyes, it presents a picture of a well-rounded working dog. It has a highly developed behavior and a benign disposition that goes with its imposing posture. Its character and nature makes it an excellent choice for companionship with small children and the elderly unlike other dogs.



German Shepherds and those from the Hound group make for great pets and guard dogs but are not as good a candidate for a family dog as the Golden Retriever since they are a one-man dog therefore loyal only to their masters. Compatibility and Usage: In the 1900s in England, Golden Retrievers became popular because of their capability to perform well in both waterfowl and upland game hunts. They are used chiefly as hunters but they also exhibited strong aptitude as show dogs as well. The breed's genteel behavior, sociability with other animals and humans have made them highly successful as an all-round dog that can perform as a family and guard dog, seeing-eye dog, and guide dog!

Physical Appearance: The male Golden Retriever normally stands between 22 to 24 inches and weighs between 60 to 80 pounds whereas the a female Golden Retriever's height is a bit smaller from 20 to 22 inches with a weight between 55 to 70 pounds. The have a water-repellent outer coat with a very dense undercoat. Their tails are long but are never curled. They have a water repellent coat the color of bright gold.

Temperament: This is the one of the most important aspects of a Golden retriever and is generally taken into consideration while choosing. As puppies, the retriever will show a hyper physical activity, running around the house trying to retrieve anything and everything. As adults, they always display a patient demeanor and in spite of being a highly active dog, it can sit quietly for hours. Caring & Health: Since it has a thick coat, daily grooming is necessary especially during the shedding season when the Golden retriever sheds its winter coat. Clean your Golden Retriever's ears on a regular basis to prevent ear infections and bad smell.

A golden retriever is an exceptional competition dog because it can fetch almost anything from anywhere whether you throw it in a pool of water, mud or into the thick undergrowth of a forest. They just have the nose of it! With proper training he can win you dog competitions whether that is about obedience, track running etc. According to a research, it is believed that he can learn as many as 240 commands and displays a high level of intelligence.

Its lifespan varies from 10 to 13 years although there are some members of the breed that have been known to live 15 years or more.
