Gout mostly attacks just one of your joints, usually the big toe. In more than seventy five percent of all gout cases, the big toe is the joint affected. The first sign of gout is pain. Excruciating pain that has a very sudden onset. If the big toe is the part of your body affected by gout, then if you try to walk on that leg you can have some serious problems. Most gout patients sprained their ankles because they tried to walk on the foot affected by gout, but tried to protect it at the same time. People who have longstanding hyperuricemia can develop tophi. Tophi are stones made of uric acid. As you probably know, the main cause of gout is high levels of uric acid. So you can imagine how much uric acid a person has if he/ she has suffered from gout for a long time. However, tophi have become a more and more rare case in gout patients, because the gout cases now are treated with medication that also prevent these stones from forming.



There are two main gout cases: acute and chronic gout. However, a chronic gout attack is similar to an acute gout attack. In both cases, the gout symptoms appear very sudden and usually affect one joint or a few. In the majority of cases, gout only affects one joint and that is the big toe. Gout pain usually appears over night and in almost all gout cases this pain is excruciating. The area that is affected by got is usually swollen, red and tender. The pain caused by gout usually subsides in a few days time. The main difference between acute gout and chronic gout is that in the second case, the attacks of gout happen more often than in acute gout cases.

If you have more than two got attacks in one year, then this might lead to chronic gout symptoms like deformity of your joints or limited motion in your affected joints. Tophi can also reaper, but only if the person suffers form gout for many many years. In this case, he/ she develops tophi in his/ her tendons or soft tissues.

There are not many symptoms of gout, however those that exist are very bad.
