According to Patrick Dempsey, actor who plays Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy, Washington has been doing quite well though he hardly spends time with Washington. Based on Dempsey's observation from a far, Washington appears to be determined to surpass everything that has happened in the past. In addition, Washington's fervor in his work is very evident in his brilliant acting performances. Maybe there is really hope for the controversial actor.
In February, it was reported that many of the cast members of Grey's Anatomy appear optimistic about Washington's return from his one-week stint in rehab. Katherine Heigl, Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, revealed publicly that the cast remains positive about Washington despite the unpleasant air that surfaced among them. She said, "I, obviously, have been very verbal about all of this, but there isn't a lot going on right now? We're all hopeful...It's a great group of people, and we work really well together. We work really hard, and it's unusual that we do get along as well as we do."
Washington, a 43-year old native of Houston, Texas, attended Willowridge High School. He went to Howard University and eventually served in the United States Air Force. As an actor, he previously worked in films like The Color of Love, Land Where My Father Died, Dancing in September and Blood on a Happy Face just to name a few. Washington's previous homophobic slur instantly attracted criticisms from cast members, people from the network and gay-right advocates. This controversial issue nearly ended his career in the medical drama Grey's Anatomy where he plays Dr. Preston Xavier Burke.
Greys Anatomy Season One
In a pair of totally unrelated bits of trivia, two Grey's Anatomy actors are in the news for very different reasons. Isaiah Washington, who was recently released from the show, following a long and ugly debacle involving the gay reference he uttered in a confrontation with co-star Patrick Dempsey, which their cast mate, T.R. Knight, took offence to, is reportedly in talks for a new show with NBC. While details are still sparse and sketchy at this point, Entertainment Weekly quotes him as saying that he and his agent "are sorting through a ton of offers in both film and TV...There is one network in particular that's very interested, but I don't want to say anything specific until it's a done deal."
In completely unrelated news, Grey's beauty, Katherine Heigl, and her fianc?, musician Josh Kelley, have set an altar date which will take place on December 23 this year. The wedding will be held on the grounds of Heigl's rural Utah property and has been scheduled to coincide with the actress? holiday break from Grey's Anatomy. The announcement of their upcoming nuptials comes on the heels of Heigl's recent box office success with her movie, Knocked Up.
Though unrelated, it is interesting to note that aside from being former cast mates on Grey's Anatomy, both Heigl and Washington figured prominently in the latter's gay slur controversy. Heigl has been a staunch and vocal supporter in T.R. Knight's corner and did little to hide her displeasure and disapproval when Washington mentioned the gay reference incident in his acceptance speech, when their show won at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year. The two have had opposing twists of fate since, with Washington having to go through rehab and therapy, only to still lose his Grey's job in the end, while Heigl has enjoyed both personal and professional gratification and success.
