Some women would have you believe there are actual "rules" to who-does-what when it comes to weddings. There are not, however, some traditions come close. The bride is usually responsible for things that involve the "look" or "theme" of the wedding (wedding reception hall, flowers, wedding invitations, wedding photographer, etc) and the groom has to do what might be casually referred to as "everything else".
Here's a quick cheat sheet on common groom responsibilities:
* Marriage License
* Blood Tests (if required)
* Music (Band / DJ)
* Limos for the Bridal Party
* Gifts for your Best Man and Groomsmen
* Your half of the guest list
* Rehearsal Dinner Toast
* Wedding Night Hotel Room (if the Honeymoon doesn't start right away)
* Honeymoon
Schedule the marriage license and blood tests as soon as you can with your fiance (you both have to be there). Since this does require both of you, do this before anything else to get it out of the way before things start to get hectic.
Discuss everything with your fiance and make sure you're both clear on who is responsible for what. You just might impress her by knowing what you've got to do before she does and being proactive. Then again, she might expect this is all common knowledge and act like you're mentally deficient. Women.
Once everything is settled it's time to get to work. Get everything on your list checked off well in advance of the wedding date. You don't want anything hanging over you in the final run up to the wedding and considering how much stress everyone else will be under your best move is to stand ready to put out political fires from inter and intra-family conflicts as they arise.
May you have the best of luck, because you are most certainly going to need every bit of it! :)
Guide To Getting Married
Types of Estimates
The mover may prescribe a time dependent hourly rate based on his previous jobs. This price list may be suitable for local moves. But this does not hold good for long distance moving.
“Not to exceed" estimate which is binding only on the mover is very much suitable for long distance moving. In this the final price can not exceed the maximum limit agreed by the mover. If the move costs less you just pay the lesser amount. Sounds cool, isn’t it?
This type of binding estimate is done based on the list of items which actually would have moved. But if you decide bringing some extra items in the last minute mover may charge you more depending on whether the final prices exceeds the “Not to exceed limit" or not. Despite this aspect, the “Not to exceed" estimate is very popular. Even movers recommend this.
You might have given all the information to the mover with utmost sincerity. But for some reason or other, if at all it becomes apparent that the actual move may exceed the MAX limit, the mover may look for other ways. They may do the packing improperly and wish for the undesired. Keep an eye open for this.
Practical Tips
•Consider only licensed and insured movers
•Get moving estimates from as many movers as possible. It is always nice to have choices to decide upon. Naturally high estimates are to be eliminated. Even the much lesser ones have to be double checked.
•Let the mover come and see what actually has to be moved. Show every thing-the closets, the garage, garden shed, attic, and basement-you intend to move to the mover. Moving estimates given over phone or the internet are not that much accurate and reliable.
•Get the moving estimates in writing
•Ask for insurance. It is a mover’s legal responsibility to provide you insurance. Movers obviously will vie for weight dependent minimal coverage for your items. You should try to get best coverage. Be aware that only visible damages are considered while giving insurance. If internal electronics components of your, say, TV, is not okay, this will not be accommodated under minimal coverage.
•Basic insurance by the movers will usually not cover the replacement cost of highly expensive items. In such cases you need to purchase extra valuation or insurance. Get this clarified by your mover.
For local moves, where time is important and not the distance, unbinding hourly rate is the customary one.
All said and done don’t give in to the temptation of deciding on moving estimate alone. The reputation of the mover is an important aspect to be considered before deciding finally.
