Hair Care Advice

You will know that your hair is one of your assets and you should spend as much time on it as you would any other aspect of your appearance. It is important that you employ the correct hair care regime in order to keep your hair healthy and shiny. You may find that your hair is regularly over processed through the chemicals in dyes, straighteners and hair dryers. All of these combine to remove the natural oils from your hair and can often leave it looking dry and damaged. In order to counter the effects of continuous styling it is important to use good quality shampoos and conditioners and to change the products on a regular basis. We would also recommend that on days when you are not working you do not use styling products in order to give your hair a rest wherever possible.



General tips:

Be gently when shampooing your hair - one good way to do this is to keep an empty shampoo bottle in your shower. When you shampoo your hair add some to the empty bottle with some water and mix them up. Create a lather before applying to your hair. This will be a more gentle technique and will also make that expensive shampoo last longer.

Scrunch dry your hair with a towel after washing - avoid rubbing your hair or wrapping it in a towel both of which create friction which can break hair as well as create knots.

Use a wide tooth comb on your hair when wet rather than a brush - avoid hard jerking movements with the comb and protect the roots.

If you suffer from split ends get your hair cut on a regular basis - we would suggest discussing with your hairdresser as to what would be the correct regularity for your type of hair.

Diet plays an important part in healthy hair - ensuring you eat food rich in vitamins B, C and E as well as iron will help keep your hair in condition.

Try to avoid exposing your hair to direct sunlight.

Having regular head massages can help to stimulate the circulation - if you use an oil that contains vitamin E you can also add back vital nutrients at the same time.

When colouring your hair use good quality products and make sure you use shampoos and conditioners that are for coloured hair as this will help to give back you your hair what the colouring process may remove.

Greasy Hair

One of the biggest problems is the more you wash your hair the more greasy it becomes, so try to avoid washing your hair every day. Give your hair a break from washing as often as possible.

You will often find with greasy hair that although the roots are greasy the ends are not. As a result regular washing can damage and dry out the ends of your hair. To help combat this you can try only washing the ends of your hair every other time that you wash your hair and so reducing the pressure on the ends of your hair. Also when conditioning, try to avoid the roots and only apply to the mid and ends.

Dry Hair

Firstly we would recommend using a moisturising shampoo and using gentle techniques. The trick of adding water to the shampoo in advance is useful for dry hair. For conditioning, a standard conditioner that washes out will not help dry, damaged hair. Try using a hot oil conditioner, the use of heat is highly recommended for dry hair as it helps the moisture to get into the hair shaft. There are a number of finishing products that you can get such as thickening lotions, one of our favourites is to use an oil that smoothes your hair and also adds shine and moisture. Blow drying may increase the damage to your hair and so wherever possible allow your hair to dry naturally only scrunch drying with a towel as gently as possible.

Frizzy Hair

The most important thing for frizzy hair is the after washing treatment. Firstly avoid rubbing with a towel as this will only cause an increase in friction and frizz. Using a calming lotion and blow drying using a diffuser will help to keep the body in your hair and reduce frizz. Your hair cut is also very important and your hairdresser should be able to help you with the best one for your hair, don't be afraid to ask for advice.
