It has always been a tradition for every kid to have a scary or Halloweenish costume, during, of course, Halloween. Trick or Treat is the way of the children to go from one house to another asking for candy and other sweet delicacies, and if they are given none, then the house owners are in for a "treat".
However, some do not participate in this tradition anymore. Why? It is because they have a different kind of Halloween celebration to prepare for, the Halloween party.
Kids love Halloween parties for various reasons. They love them for the fun games, the delicious and catchy food, and the scary decorations that make their hearts jump out of their rib cages.
The games are the ones that they pay attention to the most because they have fun with the games, and also get benefits, in the forms of candies and other sweet delights. It seems that the more scared they get, the more fun and memorable their Halloween experience is.
Playing the Bean Bag Toss is not appropriate for a Halloween party; therefore, what is played is the Liver Toss. Just thaw a beef liver and the goal is to shoot, by tossing, the liver into a pail.
The How game is quite easy to play. The kids are just supposed to make as much as words as they can from the word Halloween. You can also make use of small Jack-o-lanterns that are made of plastic and have it passed around in teams that have already been lined up.
The catch is, none of the players are allowed to use his or her hands, just squeeze it under his or her chin. Get it all the way from the front to the back first, and then your team wins.
You can also spread lots of candy on a table and have each child get their share from the pile. However, they must never, under any circumstances, use their hands. They can use any other body part and have those sweet temptations placed in their individual buckets.
This game is called Little Piggies. Draw a Jack-o-lantern, or if you do not excel in the art department, have someone else do it for you, and have the Pin The Nose On Jack game. The Mummy Wrap will take more time compared to the other games.
A team member must be wrapped with white bath tissue from head to foot, just leaving the eyes uncovered. That mummy must then run around a post and back to the team and do the same thing to the next team member. The team who finishes first is declared the winner.
Always remember that it is not important that your child wins every game he or she joins in. What is important is that your child enjoys what he or she is doing, along with other children.
That is what Halloween is all about. It is about sharing the essence of Halloween with others, celebrating in joyous fun with your neighbors, and of course, giving lots and lots of candies to children who knock on your door.
Halloween Party For Kids
Halloween parties are a lot of fun, but they can also be extremely expensive. The more people you invite, the more food you have to provide, and decorations, entertainment, and costumes are also a part of the party atmosphere. Don't worry-you can have a great party even on a tight budget. Here are six steps to saving money when you planning a Halloween party.
1. Have a potluck meal. Instead of planning several snacks yourself, ask everyone to bring something. Make sure to be very specific as to what not to bring. For example, maybe you'll make the main dish yourself or the desserts yourself. You don't have to have a meal. You can also ask everyone to simply bring finger foods if your party will be later in the evening. If you are choosing to have a meal, plan something relatively easy and inexpensive to make, like Bar-B-Q sandwiches or cold cuts.
2. Go cheap with the costume. You'll already have lots of other expenses; so instead of buying a high-priced costume, make your own inexpensive version. A pair of your or your spouse's overalls and a flannel shirt can be a great start to a farmer's costume or a bed sheet can easily become a toga, for example. Look around your house to get the creative juices flowing.
3. Plan ahead - way ahead. If you host a Halloween party every year, purchase party supplies in November when they go on sale. Of course, you'll have to purchase candy and other food items fresh, but decorations and costumes can be found 70% off of more starting on November 1st. Check out party supply stores, but don't forget to look for deals at department and discount stores as well.
4. Get double the use for your money. Look for items that can be used more than once in different ways. For example, pumpkins can serve as great decorations, kids can decorate them with paint during the party as a fun activity, and then you can use the insides to make delicious pies or other baked goods the next day. If nothing else, save your decorations from year to year. Garland, fake spider webs, and lights can be used again and again.
5. Keep it small. Invite only your close friends to your party. Or make it adults only. Don't invite the whole neighborhood. Keep the invite list small. Everyone knows planning a large party is hard work and expensive. They'll understand if they're not invited.
6. Go large. Buy in bulk - items like candy. They're some great deals if you buy the larger size bags. If you don't use it all freeze what's left and use it during the year.
Enjoy yourself. If you're worried about money go to someone else's party. Or if you do have your own party, follow the tips above to save some money.
