While not all cases of Peyronie's develops from an injury to the male genitals this is thought to be what is the start of most cases of Peyronie's. Once an injury occurs the damaged tissue can develop internal scars along layers of certain types of tissue within the penis. Then a scarring of the tissue or plaque build-up can form.



Did You Know? Peyronie's is somewhat uncommon, affecting between one and three men in a hundred. I know this doesn't make you feel any better to know that you are one of the unlucky few.

Injury to the genital area does not explain other actions that occur, which makes it problematic to say for certain that its injuries that will bring on a bout of Peyronie's.

Peyronie's disease can have very different outcomes in each man that is afflicted with this problem. Since doctors still do not have a real treatment they will often recommend doing nothing for a year or two to watch how the problem will progress. Peyronie's can simply clear up for no apparent reason, although this clearing can take months or years to take place.

Did You Know? Around one in three men with Peyronie's disease will develop in the hands and/or feet additional hardened tissues similar to what is occurring in the groin.

Some men with Peyronie's experience pain and some may even have severe pain while other men have no pain problems at all. The placement of where the plaque develops can also vary greatly from man to man. The size of the plaque, it's hardness and position has no standard. These variations in symptoms can make the problem confusing as men try to figure out on their own what might be wrong with them.

Often the worst problem a man will suffer with Peyronie's disease is the psychological trauma. His manhood is becoming physically deformed and this can and will place great mental strain on a man and any relationship he may be in. Counseling or professional guidance of some kind is often recommended to help couples through the problems brought on by this disease.
