It's your first birthday and you have no idea as to what is it all about. People try to explain it as a day when you first saw the light of the world, but your face shows an expression that is nothing less than a confusion. Looking at everyone in an amazement is what you end up doing.

Not every time you feel the same whenever its your birthday. As a child, the people around you are more happy than yourself. Your aunts and uncles existed to pull your cheeks and shake and hug and squeeze you every way they wanted. Then when the food arrives they all disappear in hordes.

Its just that the birthday boy looks every where in confusion and nobody seems to be bothered. This continues till you grow up and now that you are mature enough you announce that you do not prefer any of the confusion that was going on all these years.

Birthday is also the time when the look of your house makes you feel that you are living in a fairy land. The beautiful stuff toys, colorful wrappers with gifts inside, roses and cards. Then there is also the birthday cake that one of your loved one has sent. It is a time when you feel close to your near and dear ones inspite of the distance. A sense of love and caring crosses over and it makes you feel special.

As for me, the first thought that birthday brings to my mind is that, I am going to relax and do nothing more because this is one day that is meant for me to enjoy and do whatever I wish. Birthday definitely brings in a different kind of a feeling but what are the feelings, is what I am not sure about. Is it the sense of growing up or is that I have grown a year older than my brother, giving me enough freedom to spank him for every little thing that I feel is not right. It could also be a sense of being self dependent and shouting out loud that I have grown up enough to do things on my own.

Many keep nagging over their birthday because it makes them feel sad to grow old and be neglected by the younger generation. They do not get the attention that they wish for.

I have decided not to get inspired by any of these naggy people, as they leave me with a sense of discouragement. It makes me feel that God has given us the license to be happy as long as we are young and the older we grow we loose that freedom and its the people around who shall be the owners of our happiness. I have never wanted to loose my freedom.

Birthday for me would start of getting up late in the morning, an exception for that particular day. Work has never allowed me to sleep for late hours. The next thing is receiving calls from my friends and relatives and then I am left with opening the door to some beautiful bouquets from my girl friend.

I still remember my last birthday bash. The big cake with candles all around, foam and glitters in the air. Singing and dancing and a lot of merrymaking. It was as if that the day did not want to end. My birthday also brought along a sense of maturity and responsibility where I felt that I was capable of doing things in the most responsible manner.

Some people find it very difficult to cope up with the idea that they are aging. Some call it a psychological problem. Very few accept the fact that they are aging and that every birthday is to be enjoyed with equal enthusiasm as they did the previous ones. It's a great feeling that every year you see your self in a new role where there is an added sense of responsibility and a new set of responsible people you are mingling with. Your friends too are not that kiddish any more and neither do you love to be one but no matter how much you age, you still enjoy being young at heart.

As for the one's who have a tough time celebrating their birthday, enjoy every bit of it, caring the least of any other thing. Happy are the one's who lives life as it comes rather than demanding for things that is never to happen.
