Hard Drive Data Recovery Cost

    View:
Four of the scariest words anyone can hear these days are computer data recovery cost. Hearing these words can mean only one thing, your computer is not working properly and valuable data that you have on the hard drive may be lost. If you are like a growing number of individuals that make a living online this scenario can be an absolute nightmare. While all files should be backed up to ensure the data is always saved, there is more times than not several ways to get lost data back from the dead, it is the cost of recovery that will vary.

When it comes to computer recovery cost there are two possible scenarios that can play out each with its own circumstances and cost:

1. Hard drive malfunction: In this instance there is some of your valuable data that can be damaged or even deleted. If the problem is caught early enough you can obtain data recovery software. The price for such software will depend on the brand name and other factors and generally runs anywhere from $40 to $130.

2. Physical damage to the hard drive: This is easily detected, as you will hear a whirring or clicking sound coming from your hard drive. Other signs include the hard drive becoming hot or your computer simply not starting. In this case, you need to seek the help of a computer recovery firm and the cost can be quite significant. Some firms charge a flat rate for data recovery while others charge according to how many GB your computer's hard drive is. You can expect to pay $250 to over $1000 if an expert is needed.

If the problem is bad enough to warrant an expert there are some additional costs that need to be considered. Along with the fee of the actual data recovery, there are several other fees that will pop up and should be discusses with the professional before work has begun. These fees include:

• Media used to recover data: This can range from a jump drive, for smaller data recovery efforts, to an external hard drive, for the larger recoveries. Of course, the bigger the data recovery job the more expensive the media will be. This cost is typically not included in a firm's quote.

• Evaluation: This is often included with the firm's quote, but not always, so it should be addressed. This fee will vary from firm to firm.

• Delivery of the recovered data: If the firm you use is local then this won't cost you more than a little gasoline, but if the firm is out of town then shipping charges both to and from will need to be considered. This charge is usually not covered in a firms quote, but some do, so make sure to ask.

Nobody wants to pay hundred of dollars to recover data from a crashed hard drive but sometimes you are left with no choice. With the high tech world in which we now live, much of our professional and private lives are spent on the computer. Much of the data we accumulate becomes priceless to a certain extent and if that data was not backed up then you must bite the bullet and pay the sometimes high cost of computer data recover.
Hard Drive Data Recovery Cost
Professional data recovery is costly, and that is a fact. But, then, how are the firms surviving, let alone make such good business, and profits worth billions? There are two angles to the cost factor that we are not looking into if we confine ourselves to a cursory survey. The market of home users really do not depend on professional data recovery company services directly. However, it must be noted that the software packages that this segment is buying off the shelf, or downloading as handy DIY are mostly devised by the big data recovery companies. A large company knows how to diversify its products, according to market demands, that is what makes it successful in the first place. Therefore, the low cost package you are getting for your home pc is also ultimately being bought from one of the multi-billion giants.

The other important point is the other side of this coin. There are some cases where the recovery needs or paradigms of data loss are not so simple. If a multinational giant loses its crucial and massive volume of data, a recovery software is simply not up to the job. Nor would they grudge paying the amount they need to, because it is well deserved and they do not really have the choice. A diamond and a piece of coal cannot cost the same, just because both happen to be carbon. What you pay your kindergarten tutor and your university research guide cannot possibly be the same. There is good enough reason for that. The case of data recovery is not much different. It is part of the overall market, after all.

The Factors

What are the factors that increase the cost then? In the case of a research guide, one can see the amount of material he has access to, and also gauge the expertise earned over years through a certain expenditure and brain work. In the case of data recovery companies, some of the factors that increase the costs to a certain level are being given below:

  • Clean Room Facilities: A clean room is a necessity for a data recovery company. Any company worth its salt will have at least a Class 100 clean room, if not a Class 10. The atmosphere inside these rooms needs to be well-regulated. Apart from maintaining only the given number of foreign particles in the air, there are a lot of other regulations as well. The room has to be humidity, sunlight, noise, heat, temperature variations and dust-proof in every way. These ?rooms? are actually large chambers, so one can imagine the cost. The people who work in it are required to wear something that resembles or actually is a space suit, with special gloves and a helmet with a special visor. Any furniture kept in the room has to be spick and span. The equipment in the room has to be specially treated and maintained. Having a clean room at all is not possible for all companies.

  • Training:The staff who work in such companies are highly efficient, fool-proof, and extremely specialized for all levels. They are aware that handling data worth billions is not an easy task, and comes with a very heavy burden of responsibility. Taking well-qualified people is not enough; they have to be updated on all latest technological advances, hardware developments, and threats that come to the market. This constant training process is a recurrent and unavoidable cost to the company. Needless to say, the specialists also need to be paid adequately for their backbreaking and nerve-wracking jobs.

  • Market Needs: The data recovery company is well aware of the high risk factor of its job, and the immense value of the data it is handling. The faster they can deliver and the more complete the recovery, the higher they will charge. This is because they are protecting the company from incurring more costs in the downtime experienced through every hour that they save.

  • Security Measures: Handling sensitive data means that all such companies also have their own software development cells, their data storage space and their online and off-site backup facilities. These have to be maintained by the company. They also have to maintain a legal cell for forensics implications. Finally, they have to create and deliver the data in the package format required by the client.
