Health Insurance For Self Employed In

    View:
"Cheap Health Insurance" Is there really such a thing? If you're looking for coverage against major medical bills, then yes, there is a form of cheap health insurance available for you. Forget about the high priced conventional insurance plans and start exploring the new types of low cost, self employed health insurance available today.

Self Employed Individual and Family Health Insurance Plans

HDHPs or High Deductible Health Plans can offer you significant savings over other types of health insurance if you're self employed. The reason they can do this is simple. More of the responsibility for your health care costs is placed on you, the insured. In short, you choose a deductible amount for which you are responsible to pay before the insurance company is responsible to pay.

Deductible amounts for a high deductible health plan range from $500 to a high of $10,000. Each insurance company has it's own list of deductible amounts to choose from. With many of these new plans you can start with a very basic policy and add on individual riders for other types of coverage. A popular choice is the routine doctor visits and exams rider. For about $20 per month, you can have this rider added to your plan.

Researching the various high deductible health plans, will help you to find the cheapest health insurance available for the self employed. Don't let false information about health insurance stop you from getting the serious injury and illness medical coverage you need.

High Deductible Health Insurance Quotes

Because almost all major insurance companies have made their medical plans available online, you can go shopping for health insurance any time, night or day, and find low cost individual and family health insurance quotes in a matter of minutes. By filling out a simple request form, you can get low cost quotes from insurance agents and companies in your area.
Health Insurance For Self Employed In
Looking into health insurance, especially for those who are self employed, can be a daunting task. Without the help of company programs that pay part of your insurance, it can be a more expensive, and even frustrating to get health insurance. There are some basics to understand, however, before you buy.

Get on the net and do your research. There is a dearth of information available online that allows you to assess the different health insurance plans available. Some of the sites rate the plans to help you make a decision. Before choosing one, make sure you have researched it thoroughly. Beware of cheap plans ?V they may have a much higher deductible or may not have your doctor on their list. Once you have all the facts then you can make an informed choice.

And when you're researching health insurance plans, you might come across some terms that explain benefits of a plan for the self-employed person. These benefits are a great aid when it comes to selecting a suitable plan. But what do they mean?

HMO. You will hear this phrase quite frequently. HMO is a managed care plan, often costing less than a PPO (see following paragraph) but that has more exclusions. In addition, it carries a low rating. Most HMOs stipulate that you have a primary care provider who is responsible for referring you to specialists if necessary.

An alternative you could use, PPO, is not as restrictive. It allows you to consult any doctor on its considerably large panel throughout its network. This is especially helpful if you are taken ill while abroad. And it offers the option, at an additional upfront fee, to consult any doctor you want to ?V even those not on the network. This is like an EPO, which differs in that it doesn't include doctors away from its network to the self-employed.

Another option you might see, Co-Pay, works on the up-front amounts you pay. Known as co-pays, you'd make payments of around $15-$25, or optionally choose to meet your deductible by paying 20% of your bill over a gradual time-period. Thereafter, the co-pay is very little, or even nothing. You can usually expect one co-pay for consulting a doctor in the office, and quite another for emergency consultations and prescribed medication.

The term deductible refers to medical expenses you have to meet from your own resources. Your co-pays do not count as deductibles, but on a 20% option, office consultations do. And like insurance on your vehicles, a big deductible attracts smaller premium amounts.

And having identified your health insurance needs, make sure the benefits of the plan you choose meets them. Remember to check they include maternity care, consultations with chiropractors, and mental health professionals. And while getting something ideal for your needs may not be possible, you have a good chance of getting a health plan that is almost there, and meets most of your needs.
