Almost all Republican law makers in D.C. are opposed to health care and insurance reforms that involve the government's intervening. Especially on the subject of universal health care and insurance. Republicans will accuse it of being socialist or as "Hillarycare." this phrase was coined when she had a failed attempt at universal coverage in the early 90's.



A lot of higher up Democrats are pushing hard for major health care reform, which will include government and universal coverage.

One Politico article said that republicans are responding slowly to the Democrats' health reform actions. Lots of Republican law makers disagree with the Democrats' agendas, but do not have an alternative to offer. That makes it difficult to oppose something.

An option for Republicans is to continue on with McCain's plan. That plan involved new taxes on employer sponsored group plans and tax credits. As of yet, there is no consensus.

The largest downside for Republicans is that the Democrats reform plans are already getting support on Capitol Hill and the insurance industry. Wait and see is all we can do.
