At least one positive non-musculoskeletal reaction was reported after treatment in 21% to 25% of cases. Of these responses, 26% were related to the airway assages (usually reported as "easier to breathe"), 25% were related to the digestive system (mostly reported as "improved function"), and 14% were classified under eyes/vision (usually reported as "improved vision").
The number of spinal areas treated was positively associated with the number of reactions. The conclusion of this study was that a minority of patients reported having some non-musculoskeletal benefits after spinal manipulative therapy. More studies are recommended to further investigate these reports and objectively confirm these findings.
