The human heart is without doubt an extraordinary organ, in an adult it weighs in at around 200 - 425 grams, is about the size of a fist and beats around 100,000 a day with the precision of a Swiss watch. With every beat, it alone separates us all from life and death. Having said this it is so easy for us to become complacent in respect to it's (and our overall) health and neglect it in many ways.
In order to keep it in top working condition it only takes a few careful lifestyle choices to insure it stays that way. This article covers a few of the main points worth stressing upon. They can be summerised into diet, physical activity, and some other simple choices like reducing stress in your life. It's unfortunate we were not issued with a manual for it's care however nature in it's divine wisdom never suspected for one moment that humanity would develop such an unprecedented arrogance as to the decisions we bring upon ourselves.
Keeping out of the fat zone
Diet as we all know plays such an important part in our lives, and changing it for the better does not necessarily mean dull and boring foodstuffs. We have been seduced over the years into the fast convenient food arena which is slowly killing us all. I am not saying that one must abstain from such rather be more selective and balance it more wisely. Don't believe all you hear with regard to being healthy, natural for you etc. Low glycemic is better on the whole and when it comes to fats, unsaturates are better than saturates, the latter being animal based as opposed to the better plant based fats or oils. Fats should not be totally eliminated (even though that would not be an easy task) as simple fat molecules (lipids) are what cell walls are created from.
Sugars or carbohydrates are a hot topic also. Think simple rather than complex or refined. Plants by virtue of nature produce simple carbohydrates and our bodies have no problems dismantling these for use. The consumption of grains, cereals and fruit and vegetables will go along way in keeping your heart system in good working order. Should you need to take additional supplements in your diet, make sure they are `naturally derived' and have foodstuff sources on the label as opposed to just a vitamin and mineral listing. In the end better eating habits help us to lose and control weight, look and feel better.
Staying alive with activity in mind
This doesn't mean becoming athletic overnight as this will end you quicker than you started. More so getting of the couch and get things happening. Use any opportunity you can to walk a little more, switching the TV off usually helps here. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator or lift. Try parking the car a little further away from your destination. Just be creative on this topic, generally speaking some is better than non at all. Many experts now agree that accumulating 30 mins of physical activity a day is a big step in the right direction and don't forget that famous Nike Motto `Just Do It'.
Clearing the smoke
I surely doubt anyone would reasonably argue (the evidence now given) that smoking is safe. Virtually everyone is now full aware that that it is a prime factor in many cardiovascular vascular illnesses as well as cancer, emphysema, and many oral diseases. For your hearts sake take a breath of fresh air instead and butt out that stub forever.
Before finishing her are some beneficial items to add to your diet.
Garlic
It's healthful properties have been known for some 5,000 years. It's powerful aroma is also the substance that gives make it beneficial. So if your eating it with a partner make sure he/she eats some also otherwise you will be out of luck.
Grape seed extract
A natural source of folic acid.
Hawthorn berry extract
Has a long history of medicinal uses by herbalists.
Carambola fruit
Also known as `star fruit' which comes from Asia and is very high in vitamin C.
L-Arginine
Semi-essential amino acid found in meats, wheat germ, cottage cheese, ricotta, nuts, eggs, milk and granola.
Taurine
Also an amino acid found in red meats, fish, beef, human milk and animal tissue.
So remember to play the game of hearts and play to WIN........
Heart Of The Cross
Many people are choosing to leave the corporate world in search of more meaningful and fulfilling work in their lives. Gone is the ?Bottom Line? mentality. Corinne McLaughlin says in Spirituality and Ethics in Business, ?The hottest buzz today is about a ?triple bottom line,? a commitment to ?people, planet, profit.? The continuous rise in home based businesses; the increase in small business start ups and the changing consciousness of corporations embraces this new paradigm .The ever expanding heart of the entrepreneur is the foundation of this shift and is evidenced in new business practices that honor their best resources ? people - those who work with us and for our customers.
Underlying the success of any business is the alignment of core values and beliefs with the products or services offered. Whatever project you choose to undertake, requires boldness, energy and an adventurous spirit. An Entrepreneur is not just associated with business only. I consider the role of ?Stay at Home Mothers? to be equally defined by this word. Showing ability to embrace initiative and ingenuity along side managing a household has long been undervalued by our society.
Choosing to follow your heart, listen to your soul, and be the entrepreneur you know you can be, offers a tremendous opportunity for Self Growth. Any area in your own life that you consciously choose to improve (whether spiritual, physical, emotional or mental) will create positive results not only in your personal life, but in the life of your business as well.
YOU have the Heart of the Entrepreneur.
How often have you heard the words "Bridging the Gap - Spirit and Business" in the last few years? Have you ever worked in an environment where bottom line is more important than developing the resources that create your success? Your ability to honor and inspire your employees, your team and your customers to greater heights will guarantee not only their success but your success also.
I was asked to speak about ?Spirit and Business, Bridging the Gap, at a conference in Canada. The more I worked on this concept, the more I realized that the only gap was in our perception. Think about it! Marrying spirit and business is really about living a life that encompasses spiritual principles like honesty, integrity, authenticity, inspiration, courage, responsibility, compassion and free will.
During the presentation I asked the audience to share all the clich's about business they have heard and/or experienced. Here are a few: the only thing businesses care about is money; businesses don't care about their employees; and there is no loyalty in companies anymore etc. I am sure you have some of your own to add as well. But as I mentioned earlier, there is a noticeable shift in consciousness about how we do business today.
How does this shift help you attract customers to your enterprise?
Take some time and review the intentions behind your communications. What are your underlying motives for success? These questions will challenge you to clarify your motives and lead to greater authenticity within your business. Clients can sense whether or not you truly mean what you say. This is a big step towards self growth and once you address it honestly, you will begin to attract the people and resources to further your business. According to the Law of Attraction, by ?being? your authentic self (that is living from your heart and soul), you will release self limiting beliefs and begin to allow good fortune into your life.
Where is the money?
Okay ? so you have checked your motives but still the money is not coming in. Do you believe it will? Do you really believe it will? And, do you feel you deserve it? Often times deeply buried limiting beliefs about money can sabotage any dream you have of profitable success in your business. Take a moment and reflect upon the financial education you have received throughout your life. Phrases like: money doesn't grow on trees, money is evil, it is better to give than receive, or I do not need anything, will creep into your well meaning projects undermining the flow of money into your life.
Looking at the 'triple bottom line?, how does planet fit into my business?
I have already talked about the importance of people in your business. How you communicate and honor your resources and customers is one aspect of this philosophy. Another part of this is ?profit!? Changing your belief system surrounding money and embodying your innate divine right to receive greater abundance in your life, opens the gateway for more to manifest.
The third aspect of the triple bottom line is ?planet.? This philosophy challenges everyone of us to be socially responsible. Not only with people but with the goods and services we provide. Whether you are selling health products, offering self improvement or wellness courses, marketing strategies, selling running shoes or computer software, how you choose to honor the highest good for yourself, for your customers and for the improvement of the world, expands your enterprising spirit to build and create a better place than today!
These are all conscious choices.
These reflect the spirit of business.
These reflect an entrepreneur's willingness to live and work from the heart.
In following the ?triple bottom line? philosophy, you not only embrace your creativity and ingenuity, you inspire others to do so as well. You will be walking your talk.
Here are a few gentle reminders about spirit and business:
1. Know who you are?
2. There is NO gap between spirit and business
3. Communicate authenticity
4. Value your resources
5. Embrace the path of Personal Development
6. Inspire others
7. Be socially responsible.
8. and SMILE!
I'd like to share a few words by John Matthews in Summer Solstice, that I feel add to this article.
?This is a time to come authentically to a meeting with the guiding principles of life; we make our own contract, rather than living by guidelines defined by others . . . From the beginning of recorded history, the sun has symbolized glory, power, brilliance, vitality, the animation of the soul.?
