Contrary to popular belief, growing a successful home-based business has very little to do with the out-dated techniques taught by most network marketing companies. How many people have you met who have become rich from holding home parties or hotel meetings? How about putting flyers on cars and bulletin boards, or talking to their friends and family members? Maybe a few have used these to build a successful businesses years ago, but times have definitely changed. Especially if the average drop-out rate in the network marketing industry is over 95%.

Companies teach these techniques as a way to play a numbers game to ensure an overall increase in profit. They do not have the time to focus on each individual business owners success. When you are looking to grow a home based business to heights you could only dream of, you must become a master of each of the following three techniques.

1. Mastering The Telephone

The telephone must become your very best friend. Without it, you can not succeed. Even though the e-mail and text messaging are the newest fads in long-distance communication, to this day there is still nothing faster and more effective than picking up a telephone and talking to someone. Once you come to terms with it, you will begin to realize just how quickly you can turn your business around. But knowing that you must shift your focus is just the beginning. There is an art and science to what you say and who you say it to. Meaning, you have to know the wants, needs and desires of you target audience.

Can you imagine speaking to someone who has already displayed a want or desire in what you have to offer? I am not talking about someone who saw one of your flyers and is calling out of curiosity. I am talking about someone who practically begs you over the telephone to give them what you have. Knowing exactly where that person is coming from is what turns a stalled business into something bigger than you have ever dreamed of.

2. Mastering The Internet

The internet is an explosive tool, but it is worthless if you do not know how to properly use it. Just because it is there does not automatically mean it is going to make you rich. In fact, if you do not know how to use it properly, it could wind up costing you thousands of dollars you can not afford to lose. Forget online business systems that promise you their websites are "state of the art," and do not bother spending a lot of money to have a web designer make you something that looks pretty. They only work for large companies who already have an identity.

It is the words you have on the site that makes the difference. Where to put what and how to tap into the mind of your prospect are the aspects that will make or break your success with the internet. Furthermore, you must know how to get targeted visitors to your site who already have a want, need or desire for what you are offering. Once this is mastered, you will not believe the impact this has on your business. It is what will allow you to generate millions of dollars in a very short time span.

3. Mastering The Written Word

How great would it be for you to enroll people into your business before you even spoke to them? What if you could write copy for your website that would leave every visitor salivating for what you have to offer? What if you cold write a sales letter that would drive people to sign up into your business while you were sleeping at night, or playing golf on Sunday afternoon? Would that have a dramatic impact on your business? Absolutely!

When you learn to know who your audience is and what they want and desire, you can reach out to them with such compelling words that you will not ever have to worry about money again. Products do not sell themselves. If they did, your company would not need you. You have to reach out to the people who want what those products. It does not come from thinking that everyone on the face of the earth could benefit from what you have. Who wants it? What makes them tick? What can you say that would make them want to bust down your door to get what you have to offer?

These components are not optional. I spent 10 years following every system taught to me by my network marketing company and my business spun in circles, year after year, like a tire stuck in the mud. I achieved some success, but nothing compared to what I experienced when I changed my way of thinking and mastered the telephone, internet and the written word. My company did not teach me these, I had to seek proper education elsewhere.

Sometimes you have to step outside of the community you work with. Especially if what they are teaching you is not working.
