History Of Feng Shui

    View:
This is a complicated and confusing philosophy. However, if one is truly devoted to its knowledge and historical meaning, then a person can truly achieve harmony within and with their surroundings.

This Chinese philosophy began in ancient China around the third century B.C. with the West Han dynasty. According to feng shui design, a belief exists that the earth is a being with life that has an energy surrounding it.

That energy in Chinese is called "chi". Chi is determined by the placement of an object and the actual physical surroundings placed around that object. The site around an object, usually a building, is believed to have either positive or negative energy.

In ancient China feng shui design was practiced by rich and poor alike. According to the website Indobase who gives a wonderful detailed explanation of the history of this chinese philosophy, "In ancient China a city was planned in concentric rectangles surrounded by walls surrounded by lakes, hills, valley, gardens, courtyards and parks."

The Chinese tried to ensure that both the manmade and the natural environment were planned to promote and enhance positive energy. Then they were landscaped using the Yin and Yang ideas.

Good feng shui was ensured by the ancients when they constructed the buildings to enhance harmonious relationships between members of a family and between the family and country.

According to feng shui design, "the left of the building represented Yang or male force and was connected to the forces of heaven and the right of the building represented Yin or the female force and was connected with the energies of the earth." The Yang forces were represented in sun lit roofs and elevation in the front.

Yin forces were represented in structures that had shadowed eaves and elevations in the back. If a structure was not balanced and leaned more toward either Yin or Yang forces then this would be considered improper and unbalanced.

Ancient emperors built their palaces based on this feng shui guide and this was thought to be very favorable to power.

Feng shui needs to be fully researched in order to be understood. The ancient Chinese were looking for a way to promote a more harmonious environment when they began to use this chinese philosophy. In today's society, lives are becoming more and more hectic.

If a person can find tranquility and peace by using feng shui, then more should try this unique and life altering philosophy.
History Of Feng Shui
The ancient Chinese art of energy balancing, feng shui, has attracted the modern Western mind by its plethora of applications for life improvement. Even if it could seem basic, feng shui is pretty difficult to define as it involves complex knowledge of the elements, the environment, the energetic structure of the body as well as of the maxims governing the functions of the universe. "Feng" means "wind" and "shui" is "water" in Chinese; these two elements, gentle wind and clear water are symbols of fulfillment in terms of health, wealth and fortune. People speak of "good feng shui" and "bad feng shui" depending on the way the energies are respected and put to work for you.

The foundation for feng shui is the total understanding of nature and the taoist vision, both embracing the idea that everything is full of the life energy or light, called "chi" or "qui" (in Chinese) or "ki" (in Japanese). The basic principles that could affect a feng shui analysis of a place, individual or situation include the five elements and the yin and yang principle. Feng shui is created on the ancient symbols present in I Ching, the ancient Chinese oracle. These symbols are used in the octagonal grid, the Ba-Gua, that helps you understand or determine the various relations between the feng shui locations in the home or office and the various aspects of your life.

Feng shui is familiar to several different schools, and it involves many levels of learning and comprehension, depending on the complexity of the information you have available to and actually get to internalize. The cures offered by feng shui for life improvement vary from the use of fountains, aquariums and crystals to the energy improvement by means of clocks, colors and mirrors. Light and colors make an important combination by the power they can bring to a certain location. Most places characterized by "bad feng shui" suffer from lack of light and color.

The interaction of the foundational elements is another key aspect of feng shui; wood, fire, water, earth and metal can encourage productive or destructive circles depending on the preponderance they have in one's zone of affect.

Each of the elements has a corresponding color; it is basic feng shui knowledge to know how to complement colors and balance an environment. The arrangement of the elements in a setting is not randomly done as it has to be determined by the octagonal grid, the Ba-Gua.
