Our priorities are Istria, the coast between Dubrovnik and Porec and countless islands.
We started with camping-trips and we had only a tent at the beginning and then later a caravan. So we spent a low-budget holiday with our children every year lasting 3-4 weeks.
Settled weather, clear water, good price-performance ratio, affordable camping ground were offered by the former Yugoslavia in these years. Especially the beautiful beaches were very clean and maintained.
From the early eighties, we sarted to travel by sailing-ship along the Dalmatian coast and through the unique world of island.
Beautiful coves, picturesque old towns and villages - sometimes with colorful markets and friendly people we have got to know. We have made new discoveries every year. The sailing trips became also slightly longer and our experience greater each year.
The unspeakable war forced us unfortunately into changeing the destination. During those four years the Lago Maggiore was our sail area.
But the love to Croatia remained, even during the years of wartime.
And so we started to travel through Croatia again and we still travel each year for two months until now and we enjoy our holiday every time, for example on the island of Hvar in splendid Hvar apartments http://www.hvar-apartments-center.com .
In most parts of Croatia fruits, olives, vegetables and wine are planted.
Ans we love to help them sometimes in wine-cellars or on the field.
We belong to the family so to speak, take part in family celebrations, anniversaries or sit together with neighbors.
Sometimes we charter a boat for a change and travel with friends.
But many things have changed in Croatia until now. Some places are not primeval anymore, but the country became more cultivated.
This is especially true for old coastal towns, which became famous tourist centers.
This changing has its price of course. Croatia has adjusted to the Mediterranean prices.
That applys to food and accommodation.
Our experience: small guesthouses like Hvar apartments http://www.hvar-apatments-center.com .
The host is maintained there and friendliness is usually guaranteed.
The highway A1 Zagreb-Split (expansions to Dubrovnik http://www.dubrovnikmap.net are in progress)make the a travel much easier- but the old Jadran Magistrale is much, much nicer. The curvaceous way requires careful driving and it needs a little more time
(Rjeka - Dubrovnik about 800 km), especially if you want to visit have the many picturesque old villages and towns along the route.
Outside on the islands there are many cozy, quaint towns and fishing villages. And the food prices there are still favorable ( and it's all delicious).
The islands are really unique with its large number of small, secluded beaches - some of them have simple, nice beach bars where fishermen offer their fresh fishing for delicous meals.
You can not only swim in the famous tourist resorts.
There are a lot of Sports offered.
We tried tennis, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoeing or making a sightseeing flight etc.
Young people or people who are young-at-heart, like we are can amuse themselves in a variety of dance clubs or nightclubs.
Conclusion: Croatia is a beautiful country with hospitable people. Whether on land or water, a travel to Croatia brings a lot of fun and unforgettable experiences.
