In case of diarrhoea caused by indigestion, dry or fresh ginger is very useful. A piece of dry ginger is powdered along with a crystal of rock salt. A quarter teaspoon of this powder should be taken with a small piece of jaggery. It will bring quick relief as ginger, being carminative, aids digestion by stimulating the gastro-intestinal tract.
Make a powder of 10-15 grams of dry fruit of Indian gooseberry (Amla) and 5 grams of black Chebulic myrobalan (Haritaki). Take one grams of this mixture twice in a day.
Mix powder of 12 grams of fennel and 6 grams of white cumin seeds and then add 12 grams of unrefined sugar and store it. Take one gram of this mixture in every morning and evening for 15 days.
Turmeric has proved another effective home remedy for diarrhoea. It is a very useful intestinal antiseptic. It is also a gastric stimulant and a tonic. Turmeric rhizome, its juice or dry powder are all very helpful in curing chronic diarrhoea. In the form of dry powder, it ma y be taken in buttermilk or plain water.
Boil water and allow it to cool. Add 3 teaspoons of black pepper and 11/2 teaspoon of kelp to 2 cups of water and drink. This diarhea remedy is very good natural remedy for diarrhea.
Decoction prepared from pomegranate skin is very useful in stopping diarrhea. To prepare the decoction, take 50 grams of fresh pomegranate skin. Soak it in 800 ml. of water for one hour. Boil until a quarter of the volume remains (200 ml). Store this mixture in a clean, dry bottle. A couple of tablespoons can be taken several times a day. If there is blood in the stools, add half a teaspoon of honey to the decoction.
