In the past, if you wanted a telescope, you only had a few options. You either had to go with one of the few available telescope manufacturers telescopes or you have to make your own telescope.



You don't have to be stuck with such limited choices today. There are many more manufacturers producing great telescopes that making one is an option which seasoned astronomers do for the challenge.

The telescopes of today are also sporting an additional incentive, which you could not find in the past - the 'GoTo' telescope functionality. GoTo telescopes are pretty new, and only have been available in the last few years.

These GoTo telescopes have a motorized mount, and also a computer with a controller. This controller allows you to simply key in the object you want to view in space, and the telescope goes to the exact point, ready for viewing!

Wow! Now this is an incentive to buy a telescope. You no longer have to waste time learning about where an object is, you can easily key in Saturn, Jupiter or our Moon, and it is there, ready to view!

Now, there are some points to think about, with these new GoTo telescopes. These computerized telescopes for sale have the bonus of ease in viewing objects in space, but they come at a cost.

This is not the cost, dealing with price, but lack of knowledge. You see, once you cut out the learning you get from trying to find objects in space, you are more likely to simply glance at objects in space, and not give them your full attention.

Looking at the Moon could show you the Moon much bigger, but with the ease of point and click, you might not give the attention necessary to see the details, to see the changes.

It is a point of personal choice, and all telescopes have some kind of benefit. Think about what you want out of a telescope. Do you want to buy a telescope which will give you maximum viewing pleasure while allowing you to learn a lot or would you rather have a telescope which doesn't have all the hassle, but allows you to see almost everything that is visible in the night sky?

The price range of the computerized telescopes is quite good. You won't only find this feature on telescopes for sale with a price tag of several thousand dollars; in fact some of the big telescope manufacturers such as Meade, Celestron, and Orion have GoTo telescopes for several hundred dollars!
