How Kids Make Money

    View:
While it is greatly convenient to let the kids have their own credit cards, more and more kids are becoming greatly indiscriminate when it comes to swiping their little plastic cards. The danger is usually very overlooked until it happens, by which time you can find yourself waist deep in credit card debt and your house full of useless junk.

Fortunately for you, this doesn't always have to be the case. You can teach your children how to become more responsible when it comes to dealing with money with the few simple ideas below. Now, I'm sure there are other ideas floating around out there, but here are a few to get you started.

You have to show them that money is earned. Kids will greatly put more value towards their money if they worked hard for it. If they're old enough, you can suggest a job for them, or even help them start out a new business. Perhaps they can join you in West Virginia crafting fairs and festivals and open up shop there. Or if they're younger, you should give them simple jobs that they can handle and then get rewarded for it. This reinforces the idea that good work has rewards.

Tell them to save up. Saving isn't an act of deprivation and you need to convince them how important it is to have some cash handy when it comes to sticky financial situations in the future. Discuss opening up a savings account in a local bank or setting up a college fund. Of course, you have to point out the advantages or these kids won't pay attention.

Teach them how to keep a budget. Better yet, plan a budget with them. Let them participate in the household budget with you and you can teach them all about the different expenses that they need to look out for. Of course, they wouldn't need to worry about some of the things like mortgage yet, but you can teach them a thing or two about setting aside some money for different things in life.

There are still other useful ideas out there which you can use in order to make money lessons more memorable for your kids. You have to make sure that these lessons are as fun as playtime otherwise, they probably won't show any interest in it.
How Kids Make Money
Everyone feels a little tighter on the budget nowadays. What with the global economic crisis going on and the economy falling, everyone wants a little financial security to hold on to. With all these concerns, there's really no better time to teach your kids about saving money than today.

A budget is a very important part of the household system. It helps maintain a balance that would otherwise put the entire family into financial chaos. By having your children learn the importance of keeping a budget, you're slowly teaching them how to become more responsible and wise consumers. They can actually find it a fun activity to allot some of their allowance money for certain things that they wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

You can teach your kids this importance by letting them handle a little amount of money by themselves. You have to make sure that they handle it as responsibly as an adult. You can also suggest some ways to make more money from it. Perhaps a business from their arts and crafts hobby. Having your kids learn the importance of money early on in life is a good way to be sure that they are responsible users of money in the future.

One of the many advantages that you can point out to kids is that a budget enables you to save money. The budget helps you predict how much you're going to spend in a day or in a week and knowing this is helpful since it lets you plan in advance how much you're going to save for that time. You can teach your kids that saving money lets them buy better things in the future.

You have to make sure as well that they see the disadvantages of spending all your money irresponsibly. Your kid needs to learn to start being responsible because you'll never know when you'll need some money in the future. Ask him to save up for college now, and you'll be surprised at how much this affects how he grows up to be a good and relevant citizen.

A budget is important. Whether you're planning your week's expenses or your annual purchases, it lets you have some semblance of security over the one thing that we can never be sure of, the future.
