Do you have the faintest notion at all? Perhaps you have already experienced your cat being pregnant before.
One thing is for sure, knowing the length of a cat's pregnancy won't help at all unless you know the date when she mated with her chosen suitor.
In the general way of things, your cat doesn't let that sort of information slip out!
Just when you think that your life is on track, your cat comes home with more than she went out with.......
All that affectionate behavior and cute rolling around she's been doing recently hasn't been for your benefit after all - she's been in season and has been anxious to get outside and call for any Tom, Dick or fur-covered Harry to mate with.
And now, without warning, you have an idea that you are going to be the proud grandparent to a litter of kittens and you haven't the first notion of when that will be.
So, how soon will your cat's new little kittens be born?
The avarage length of feline pregnancy is 63-65 days - around nine weeks - but kittens may be born as early as 58 days or as late as 70 days gestation.
But as chief midwife-in-waiting, unless you have a good idea when your promiscous puss-cat was consorting with the local toms, you will only be able to make a rough guess at the expected delivery date.
It's much more likely that you will miss the fact that your lovely cat is pregnant until she is 5 or 6 weeks into her pregnancy and the signs become fairly obvious.
By the time you feel that you really need to know how long feline pregnancy lasts, your cat will be more than halfway through.
You may just notice - if you are very observant - that your cat's nipples are beginning to look significantly pinker. Her milk glands begin to prepare for full-scale milk delivery around week 3 of pregnancy.
At the same time, your cat's appetite may change and she may start to become picky about her food. Puss-cat morning sickness, perhaps?
Mind you, it's not unusual for any cat, pregnant or not, to go through fussy phases in their eating, so it's not very likely that you would particularly associate this with pregnancy.
It is very unlikely that you will understand the significance of these subtle changes in your cat unless you have had previous experience of feline pregnancy.
It will be around weeks five and six that you will become certain that your lovely pet is expecting kittens and by this time, you will only have 21-28 days to go before they are born.
Naturally, as a loving and responsible cat owner, you will want to make sure that you are fully aware of what care you will need to give during the birth and to your newly born kittens and their mother. So make sure that you have equipped yourself with the knowledge you will need by finding a comprehensive ebook that will easily guide you through all the stages of pregnancy, labor, birth and nursing.
But above all, just enjoy the thought that very soon you will become a kitten grandparent!
