In the past lace wigs were used mainly by actors and people who suffered from hair loss due to medical problems such as chemotherapy, alopecia or PCOS. But recently, celebrities like Beyonce and Tyra Banks are making lace wigs more widely popular. A lace wig is unlike any other wig. They are so realistic that you can be sitting right next to someone and not know they are wearing a wig.
A lace wig is built on a very sheer lace cap, and the key feature is that at the hairline, and when parted, a lace wig looks incredibly natural, as if the hair is growing right out of the scalp. The lace is adhered to your skin and disappears, you can even wear a lace with in a a high ponytail or up do!
With proper application your lace wig should appear invisible and create a natural look that the hair is growing right from your scalp!
If this is your first attempt at attaching lace wig, you should expect to spend several hours until completed and you may want to have a friend handy to help you out. Applying your lace wig will not always be difficult, and you will not need someone to help you every time, however it is a somewhat complicated task. The more you practice the easier and more fluid the process will become.
1. TRIM THE LACE
When you first receive your lace wig, you will notice there is excess lace around the perimeter. This will need to be trimmed off.
Be extremely careful, as you will need trim the lace as close to the hairline as possible without cutting any of the lace wig hair.
If you are in-experienced at this, just cut the lace back a little bit at a time until you are comfortable.
2. WEAR WIG CAP
Its not necessary, however many people prefer to wear a 100% Nylon Wig cap. This can sometimes be more comfortable for those that have natural hair that will need to stay pinned down under the lace wig, and for those experiencing a greater hair loss.
3. PREPARE YOUR SCALP
Using either 99.9% Medical Grade Alcohol, or our Scalp Protector, rub it onto your skin all the way around your hairline where the adhesive will be applied. This will clear your skin of any oils for better adhesion and also protect your skin from irritation.
4. APPLY THE ADHESIVE
If you are going to use a wig glue, you will need to apply a very very thin layer onto your skin, then wait approx. 10 - 15 minutes for the glue to become tacky. At this point you can add another thin layer of glue, you will need to wait another 10 -15 minutes for it to become sticky or tacky
5. APPLY THE WIG
Using hair clips, clip all of the hair up on your wig to make sure it will not get stuck to the adhesive you have just applied to your skin. Put on your wig and press the hairline lace firmly onto the adhesive. At this point you should wait a few more minutes for the wig glue to set up completely before styling. You can tell when the glue is finished drying as it will not be sticky or tacky and your wig will be firmly in place.
