Most people can agree that they are there looking to help make friends and some are even looking to help promote their business. You may wonder what exactly is the purpose of businesses being on MySpace. Stop and think, have you browsed through the music and movies sections lately?



There are literally thousands of starving movie producers and musicians who are trying to further their careers by hoping to build a good following on MySpace. These people often post samples of their work and even entire pieces of their work for people to listen, watch and sample. The great news is that these samples are free to watch and listen to. The bad news is that many of the people who are promoting their businesses on MySpace are now turning it into a huge website full of SPAM.

Therefore, if you are only looking for friends and keeping in touch with others, without ending up with tons of SPAM on your page there are some things you can do to keep your page safe. You do not have to follow all of these options, they are only suggestions and you can use any of these options either separately or combined together to ensure that your page is SPAM free.

First thing you can really do is set your profile to private. This keeps just random people from being able to view it. If you figure, why bother because they can just ask to be a friend, then start carefully checking the profile of anyone who is asking to be your friend. Most people who SPAM tend to have some hateful messages in the comments section of their page from people who are upset about receiving SPAM. Read over that a little bit and see if you see these complaints. If you spot any of the complaints then it is a good idea to deny the request.

Second, set it to only allow people who know your last name or e-mail address to request friendship. This helps really reduce the amount of SPAM because bots and spammers are not going to have this information. By requiring this, you save yourself a lot of hassle and still can keep in close contact with your friends and family.

Third, in your profile security options you can tick a box that allows you to refuse friend requests from bands, and other types of businesses. This is great if you have no interest in being friends with the bands that are trying to increase their friends list in the hopes of promoting themselves.

Fourth, set all of your comments to need approval before they are posted. This is the single best way to avoid SPAM because you are the only one who sees it before it goes to your profile. Delete anything that is questionable or flat out SPAM and you are sure to keep your page SPAM free for a very long time.
