Using pay per click advertising is the system of choice for many internet based companies to receive large amounts of traffic to their website in a short space of time. Despite many new techniques being available, this type of marketing is still very popular. All that happens here is an advert (some text with a url link), often in blocks of two or more, is placed on various other websites that are popular and receive large numbers of visitors. When a visitor does click through to your site, they must stay for more than ten seconds for the previous (hosting) site to be paid, albeit a very small amount. There are a couple of pints to remember about this: your advert will be related to the subject of the site it is being used on and these sites are generating huge amounts of traffic. Another reason this is a cost efficient process is because you only pay the hosting site when the links are used.

Of course with traditional advertising which is very costly, there is no guarantee any visitor will even bother looking at your ad, let alone give you any business. Some people are worried about competitors clicking to run up their bill or lose them from the screen completely but in practice this rarely happens. Pay per click is one of the most targeted types of marketing available which means it is extremely cost effective for businesses that often lose a great deal advertising to those with no interest in their product. This means that people browsing the site where your advert is placed are already interested in what it is you are offering.

There are a number of these pay per click programs available but it is Google who have captured the market with their Adwords system. Your small ad will show up when people search on Google for a phrase or term that you designate. If you have paid a great deal for the search term you may find your sponsored advert at the top of Google's search page or it might be at the side.

It is this immediate effect that appeals to many advocates of pay per click marketing. It doesn't take very long for you t discover whether you will need to adjust the advert. Almost all top companies will use pay per click as part of their marketing structure because it is perceived as being the most effective.
