How To Invest In Silver

    View:
One of the easiest and most risk free ways to get started in the field of investment related to precious metals is to start with silver, it comes with all the gains of precious metals with minimal risk. A silver bullion investment does not require you to have a large capital to start off. A troy ounce can be brought for as little as $30 per ounce. Silver is the most affordable and perhaps the most used of all the precious metals, not only in the forms of silverware but also in various industries like jewelry, nanotechnology, water purification , electronics, photography etc. Silver as a metal resists corrosion, is soft, lustrous and one of the best conductors of electricity known at present making it the most sought after metal in electronics and communication industries.

Silver bullion much like the bullion of other precious metals comes in various forms and sizes. Ranging from 1 gram up to 100 Kilo bars. Like other precious metals bullion is the basic form in which silver is traded but unlike gold where an investment of 1/2kg-1kg of gold is considered substantial the same is not true for silver. It is almost a quarter in value of gold but this isnt necessarily a bad thing. As the premiums and potential are relativly the same. When Gold rises due to inflation Silver tends to track along side. so percentage wise whatever you can invest in silver has the same performance as gold., and throughout the ages in economic crisis, we all know what happens to gold.

Unlike bonds and stocks, silver posses a basic intrinsic value so even if the price of silver may fluctuate a little with market trends it never can lose its intrinsic worth. Silver prices have been on a steady incline ever since the markets crashed during 1970-80, dollar lost a lot of value but silver prices soared high like never before. With the current economic climate and the fact were in a short deflation mode as the dollar rises. Its inevitible that the dollar will fall in the long term due to inflation. When this process kicks in in mid 2009, there is a high percentage risk hyper inflation will take over. In these economic conditions Gold and Silver Bullion regin supreeme. As investors around the gold look for safe havens for their wealth.

For investors looking to reduce the volatility of their financies, Investing in silver bullion is easy compared to other commodities. Investment portfolios should consist of larger denominations of silver bullion from 1 ounce upwards.. Smaller denominations are mainly for the novelty factor and wont bring you much in the way of stability. In my personal opinion when investing in silver bullion. I would tend to stick with bullion bars rather than coins. Although there is much discussion on this. My main point is that when you invest in coins. You are paying premiums for design and patterns. This is all very well in a market that supports the collectors. But in bad economic times those very collectors who purchase at higher premiums to get the coins they want. Are also experiencing money shortages and high inflation. Question is, can they afford to collect in a high inflation envronment ?

I personally only stick to silver bullion bars. As there are no premiums other than the buy price and you get what you pay for. Storing silver bullion is easy as the metal is relatively non- reactive. When the great depression of 1930's hit only those who had read the markets in time and invested in precious metals like silver bullion were safe, with markets looking ever so volatile investing in silver bullion is a wise move. In conclusion silver bullion is a great investment for small and big investors looking to secure a part of their finanical future.
How To Invest In Silver
Since Gold prices are rising by leaps and bounds, Investors have been bound to take notice of Silver. Though it is still too early to get excited about the future and profit of investing in Silver, as of mow traders are happy to have found the 'silver lining'. Considering that Silver had reached a high of $50USD in 1980, today's prices of $16.89/oz, are just plain cheap when tuned for inflation, yet before planning your investment, it is a good idea to check past records.

Market study shows that the value of Silver The average price of silver oscillates due to the simple economic law of demand and supply. After jewelry and silverware, silver was largely consumed in the photographic industry. However, as a direct result of the wide spread acceptance of digital photography, there has been a steady decline in silver usage from this industry.

The Silver Book reported that in 2007, there was a surplus of 6171 tons of silver. In a short span of time, here has been a steady decline of demand for silver although the supply of silver will increase as traditional photography is replaced with digital and as the demand from other areas decline. Huge demand that will also affect the supply of silver will come from the stocks held by Exchange Traded Funds. New industrial as well as technological advances which are likely to make good use of silver, may increase its demand and thus reduce the supply. Thus prices increase in the process.

A final argument in silver's favor for those who believe in reversion to the mean is the level of the gold/silver ratio. At the moment, you need 63 ounces of silver to buy one ounce of gold. 2,500 years ago, when coins were first made in ancient Greece, the ratio of gold to silver was generally between 10:1 and 13.5:1. In the 1930s and 1940s the ratio reached 90:1 or higher, and in 1991 it peaked at about 98:1.

For the last decade it has hovered at around 60:1. However, the last 350 years is more like 30:1, suggesting that to bring things back into balance, either the gold price has to fall, or the silver price has to rise. Studies clearly show that the tides are turning in favor of silver.

So on the whole this is a good time to invest in silver, while not trying to corner the market. Be it the balance of supply and demand or abstract idea of silver/gold ratios, from, your success depends on what forecast and subsequent strategy you follow.
