How To Learn Language

    View:
Books, tapes and DVDs are plentiful with language learning courses, and these can be great learning aids. For someone who is internet savvy, there are many online classes that can be taken on how to learn French or any other dialect.

The convenience of being able to learn in this way can be very helpful for the right person. For true fluency in any language though, you will have to interact with native speakers.

Though this scenario sounds quite depressing, you should not lose hope. To learn language skills to perfection you need to do one more thing besides learning new words and grammar; that magic ingredient is "practice."

Have you wondered why children catch on to foreign languages in absolutely no time at all? It is because they plunge into the language and speak whatever they know, whenever they can, without being self-conscious of mistakes or wrong accent inflections.

Practice is actually a very powerful tool in your arsenal if you want to learn a foreign language thoroughly. As well, since it is natural to think in their mother tongue, for example English, many people have to mentally translate what they want to say into the language they are learning, only to blotch the dialogue completely. However, at some point in the French learning experience, most will start to think in French and will not be burdened with the necessity to consciously translate from English to French before speaking.

In order to find out if you are truly fluent in a language you are going to need to get out there and start talking to some native speakers. It is said that the true test of fluency in a language is when you are finally able to think in that language.

The only way that you are going to learn language skills properly, and get to that level, is to practice each and every day. Finding people who are fluent in the language you are learning is essential. If you have the opportunity to speak only that language with others, then your chances of truly mastering the lingo will increase exponentially.

Once you find yourself a native speaker who is willing to work with you to help to learn language skills that will make you fluent in their language, then you are home free. You need to totally immerse yourself in the language to the point where you are thinking in that language.

This can help you when you want to learn French or any other language. If French is the foreign language that you have chose to learn, then don't forget to work on perfecting your French grammar and increasing your French vocabulary too.
How To Learn Language
Curiosity is natural, but you need to decide whether you want to fully learn to become fluent in the first language or are just gathering a little knowledge of different languages here and there. You can even end up not being particularly proficient in any language by doing things this way.

Make that decision right at the start. Decide you are going to commit to the time and hard work that it will take for you to become fluent in a language. Set goals; how many hours a week can you devote to study that ONE language?

You can make the choice of whether you want to become completely fluent, or to be able to hold a fairly straightforward conversation. But do just focus on that one language until you reach the point that you are happy with. This is the point that you can move on to language number two.

If you go for a relatively easy language, which would be one similar to your mother tongue, it will still take you hundreds of hours to be able to speak it correctly, even with the best teaching methods and an above average intellect. You may be tempted to get sidetracked and have a little look at one or two other languages, but don't be fooled into thinking that you will able to pick up a bit from all of them; all you'll do is confuse yourself.

If your heart is set on learning a little bit of a few languages, then you need to find a method to optimise your learning potential.

Make yourself a promise once you have chosen your first new language, Spanish for example. Stick with it until you have reached your desired goal. There is no harm in buying a couple of grammar books for French and German, you can even do a couple of lessons for fun, but know in your own mind that it is only for fun until you have finished with the Spanish.

Don't get over excited and finish a whole book of german lessons when you are still only halfway through the Spanish course!

So, in conclusion, it's fairly clear that it is not such a good idea to try and learn more than one language at once.
