Working at home can be very rewarding, yet very challenging. Especially since most wages are based on productivity, not an hourly wage. Learn how to increase your productivity so that you will not have to work more hours to get more money.
a. Set up a workspace that is only used for you job. It would be great if this space had a door, but if not don't worry. Even a corner in the dining room will work if it is only used for the purpose of your work at home job.
b. Set up regular office hours and stick to them. This means that you cannot finish the dishes. If your hours starts at 9:00 a.m., then start working at 9 a.m.
c. When other people call during your office hours for a favor "since you aren't working," say no. You must stick to your office hours. If you don't respect them, no one else will.
d. Only check e-mail 2 or three times a day. It may be tempting to check to see what new clients or assignments every hour or more, but every time you do, you waste precious minutes. Even if it only takes 3 minutes to check your e-mail, if you check five extra times, you waste 15 minutes. Think how much work you can get done in 15 minutes.
e. Refrain from surfing the web. If your job requires you to be on the Internet, only use the sites you absolutely need to during office hours. Don't click on interesting articles when you check your email, this takes precious money making minutes from your job.
How To Make Money Work
Everybody wants to know how to make money without working these days. There are dozens of products that claim to teach you how to earn money on auto-pilot. And the truth is, it can be done. But only if you are smart enough to prioritize your tasks and pass off the less important jobs to someone else.
You have to build your business with the goal of eventually walking away from it. And sooner rather than later. So often, people start a new business and find themselves in a position where if they walk away, the business will fail. When this happens, you own a job not a business.
What happens is, people start out with little or no money and they have to do all of the jobs themselves. If it's an online business, they design the page, write the sales copy, set up the payment processor, answer the emails...etc. Then eventually when the business takes off, they don't feel comfortable handing those duties off to someone else.
It's a difficult concept for most self-motivated people to grasp. But you can actually make more money if you do less work. Will everything be exactly the way you want it? No. But chances are, if you hire the right people, the results will even be better. They will certainly be more efficient. And it will leave you with time to either do the things you love, or develop new ideas for your business. Both of which will lead to a healthier business and life!
Another scenario that often plays out, is that someone starts a business and they plan to delegate the responsibilities "just as soon as they start making money." The problem is, you will never start making good money until you become more efficient. And the way you do this is through outsourcing and delegation. You should leave yourself with free time to be creative and work on new projects. Let someone else worry about the details.
When you set up your online business, do it with every intention to not touch it after a couple of months. Set up your website, payment processor, autoresponder, everything to run on its own. Further, develop relationships with graphic designers, copywriters, anyone who offers a service that you are currently doing yourself. Pass off the responsibilities and never look back!
It is possible to double both your profits and your free time simultaneously!
