How To Sing Like A Pro

    View:
Have you always wanted to know how to sing?

Have you ever wondered how some people learned how to sing like professionals? Or how tenors can create hair-raising finales? Do your friends love teasing you during karaoke nights that you've ended up fearing those nights already?

Like any talent, singing is a gift. But you could also learn it with proper technique training. In anything you wanna do, the most important thing is to have the will power to do it. Much determination and want is required of singing as well.

Besides that, here are some other things that could help you turn from a croaker to a singing sensation in no time:

Find a Mentor

If you're serious about wanting to sing, then you gotta get yourself a voice coach. To learn to sing, you need to look for mentors who can give feedback. And because singing is a kind of performance art, you should get feedback from a good listener.

In American Idol, Simon Cowell is blunt about telling a person's vocal standing. And although people hate him for it, he's actually helping the singer. Faith in your own talent is good but a mentor would be able to help you get better. Coaches are there as a second set of ears-and trained ears at that-to listen to you and determine your voice quality, your tone, and your range. A coach can give you professional training.

Also, try looking for organizations or choirs with vocal trainings and practices. It would be great if you can sing with a group because it can make your learning more holistic.

Study Breathing

An important part of singing is breathing. Try a simple exercise before vocalizing: first, put your palm on your sternum, that area where the rib cages meet. Inhale, exhale, and observe how your lungs expand and contract. Learning how to breathe properly while singing is a bare essential. Because the mix of low notes to high notes requires fast shifts and focus, there are drills dedicated to help the singer incorporate breathing while singing. That kind of training would help you learn to control your voice so you belt out properly and smoothly. You should also try holding your breath for as long as you could-you're gonna need this skill if you wanna sing properly. Remember, different songs require different kinds of breathing techniques; some more complicated than others.

Know the Notes

Doing practices with notes is best done with a group or a choir. You get compelled to listen to how your voice really sounds like and whether you're in tune or not. It helps to make you see areas of improvement. There are certain drills that focus specifically on breathing techniques. You can also do it alone but it's more advisable to do it with a group of other people.

Check your tone accuracy with a piano if you play one. Try and replicate the sound of basic keys with your voice. To check how you're doing, increase and decrease your pitch every once in a while. You're on the right track if you hit the same notes that the piano produces with your voice.

Pronounce Properly

Singing is not only about rhythm and flow, but also about words. Correct pronunciation means a lot in singing. Focus on pronouncing your vowels at every pitch because words are mostly made of alternating vowels and consonants. We do have to take into account, though, that different peoples have different ways of pronouncing and singing. Always listen to the way singers sing their songs. Having a model helps in training on a certain song and its lyrics.

Know How to Choose the Right Song

If you know which song fits you, it means you already know your voice. New singers usually choose songs that don't actually compliment their singing voice. A choir or a coach can give you an idea which songs best fit your voice. Voices find their songs as much as songs find their voices. Your voice might've improved but your song choice might be bad. It's not only taste that matters in choosing a song. Voices have certain perks and quirks too. The right song can make your voice sound like a pro.

Enjoy

A lot of guides tell you what to do and what not to do. Not a lot tell you to enjoy and be passionate. Singing is, firstly, a form of self-expression. Whether you're already a pro or a beginner, what matters is that you enjoy yourself. Practice doesn't have to be taxing-you can do it in a fun way, like in the shower or a karaoke night with friends. Singing frees the soul and should mainly be enjoyed. The key to learn to sing is not just about know the technicalities of singing, breathing right, or reaching the right notes-most of all, it's about love and passion for expression.
