How To Train A German Shepherd

    View:
It is essential to have regular grooming when caring for your German Shepherd even if you don't do a lot of bathing. Your German Shepherd will have a shiny coat and will have a lower chance of contracting skin problems if you maintain proper grooming procedures. For eight to twelve weeks you should do moderate grooming and then maintain it every night. When it comes to grooming your German Shepherd it is best to comb at least twice a week in order to manage the double coat that is common with the German Shepherd breed.

During the shedding season you may want to use a shedding blade since the German Shepherd sheds all year round, but during the shedding season it gets excessively worse. However, you need to be trained in the proper use of a shedding blade to use it. Another option is to use the metal rakes to help take out the matted undercoat that typically occurs around the neck, chest and thigh areas. Instead of hand fluff drying it is better to use a modern high velocity dryer to remove excess water after bathing. Always remember to brush in the direction of hair growth.

When grooming your German Shepherd you may want to give them a haircut. You can use a pair of scissors to remove the long hairs that you find under the feet as well as the stray hairs around the feet. Rather, if you want a fluffier or fuller looking coat, you should brush the hair in the opposite direction of growth and then do light brushing in the direction of hair growth.

Using thinning shears can provide your dog with an overall neat appearance. To achieve a heavy boned appearance you should use selective thinning for your German Shepherd. While grooming your German Shepherd it is also a good idea to focus on the toenails, ears and teeth as well. When you groom your dog you should check the nails and trim them as needed. Unattended nails that grow too long can split or become broken.

Grooming your German Shepherd allows you to make sure that the oils in the fur are evenly distributed which helps prevent matting and tangles from occurring. It also helps to remove the dead skin cells and loose hair, which can clog the coat and take away from the neat appearance.

Just make sure you don't cut or scratch the dog's skin when grooming. So you don't miss any parts of your dog's coat it is best to use a combination of brushes and brush heads.

For the German Shepherd it is best that you select the right shampoo as well, since they can be easily affected by wheat and may have other allergies as well. Oatmeal shampoo is one option but it can cause material to build up faster, which means you will have to bathe the dog more often.

Aloe shampoo is another good idea as long as you don't have to worry about fleas. You can keep your German Shepherd looking well-groomed all the time by using proper grooming techniques.
How To Train A German Shepherd
German Shepherds, like any other living animal, can develop allergies to things around them. Sometimes these allergies are inherited through genetics and other times these allergies affect only your dog and can occur even though your dog's lineage does not have any of these conditions in it. It can be frustrating but one of the first ways to handle German Shepherd allergies is to be able to identify them and know what they are. The symptoms can vary sometimes but the behavior can be consistent enough that you can let your vet know what is going on and hopefully stop it.

On common skin allergy among German Shepherds is an allergy called atopy. Atopy can cause such symptoms as excessive cleaning especially in the armpit area, excessive biting of the foot, or even a loud wheezing noise as the dog is breathing which can indicate a difficulty in being able to breathe. Sometimes something as simple as a diet change can help in this condition but ask your vet to have a look at your dog and tell for sure how to treat this condition.

Another in the list of German Shepherd allergies is potential food allergies. Sometimes a German Shepherd is not able to digest some proteins or other nutrients properly and this can cause an allergic reaction. The symptoms are biting at the coat and any kind of digestive symptom such as vomiting, diarrhea or both. If you notice that your dog just cannot keep its food down the contact your vet, as your vet will need to put a program in place that tries to narrow down and identify the nutrient that is causing the problem and then adjust your dog's diet accordingly.

This one just needs to be said in an article like this and that is to avoid giving your dog chocolate. Chocolate in any form, whether it is in bars or cake, can be potentially lethal to your dog so avoid your dog ingesting chocolate at all costs. This is not a myth and while it is true that some dogs can tolerate certain levels of chocolate it really is not something that you want to try and experiment with, as you never know what the results could be.

If one of the German Shepherd allergies that your dog has is an allergy to fleabites then you will be able to tell this by finding what is known as hot spots. If there is an allergy to fleabites then there will be patches on the skin that are warm to the touch and may even be oozing a liquid in some cases.

Flea bite allergies usually show up in the form of what is known as hot spots where there are patches of your dog's skin that seem warm to the touch and maybe even oozing liquid. If you find a hot spot get your dog to the vet immediately.

Allergies can pop up at any time and you need to keep an eye on your dog so that you can recognize the symptoms and get your dog the help it needs from your vet. Sometimes treatment can be as easy as a change in diet while in other cases medication may be required.

Whether the solution is a change in diet or medication your dog needs to have attention from the vet as soon as possible.
