How To Update Website

    View:
But how often should we be making updates? Is once a day too much? Maybe once a week isn't often enough? How can you tell?

The first clue is this - you need to make sure your website is always truthful. By this I don't mean that you would ever tell lies; rather I mean that the information contained on its many pages is always correct. If you suddenly find you've got tons of broken links, your articles are weeks if not months out of date, and half the products you're selling are out of date as well, then you know that an overhaul is long overdue.

The next clue comes in the form of emails from subscribers. You'll always get one or two from people who will query information or links of some kind, but if the numbers suddenly start going up you can take that as an indication you've got some work to do.

It's also important to remember that Google loves active websites. When those search engine spiders go out for a crawl around the web, they tend to notice the sites that have plenty of active links, lots of relevant and up to date content, and plenty of activity.

By updating your site regularly you will continue to attract the attention of the spiders, and your site will benefit as a result. If you stop updating your site for a while, you'll notice your search engine ranking will start to fall. It might be a constant battle to keep your website up to date, but if you don't you'll pay in more ways than one.

In essence then, you should probably be updating your site every day. By keeping on top of this job you'll be better able to spot tiny errors and cracks as they appear, and you'll be able to patch them up quickly without it causing you any major problems at all.

The problem is that lots of people assume a site update will take hours. It doesn't. Not if you do it daily. You might just tweak it here and there, or you may just give it the once over and find there is nothing to do.

The point is, if you are serious about having a successful website that makes sales, makes money and draws in the traffic, you shouldn't mind taking a look at it every day to see where you can improve on things. If it starts to feel like a chore you're either in the wrong business, or you're doing something wrong.

There is no website online that is perfect in every way. But all that daily tweaking can improve your results, improve your ranking and improve your traffic, as you slowly find ways of advancing your knowledge and using it in a positive way.

Suddenly that dreary task of updating your site doesn't seem so bad, does it?
How To Update Website
Here are some questions to ask yourself (or your web designer or hosting company):

1. When is the last time you rewrote any of the copy or uploaded new content?

2. Have you maximized your pages for keywords for the search engines?

3. Do you have an opt in box on every page? Is it working?

4. Are you tracking your web stats to see how many people are coming to which pages, staying for how long, leaving on what page, signing up for what?

5. Are you offering valuable resources, content, articles and links that your target market will come back to your site often for and/or forward to a friend?

6. Are you paying more than $10/month for regular hosting?

7. Could you be having people sign up online to buy your products or services and aren't?

8. Are you as totally automated online as you could get to really maximize your time?

9. Do you understand all the capabilities a website could provide for you to save you time and make you more money with less work?

10. Do you have a content editor on your site so you can change the text or add pages anytime you want (or outsource to an assistant, either way you could get it done right away)?

Those are just a few questions I ask my clients when they meet with me regarding their websites...there is really so much more to cover and to know.

But you may not be a website or internet marketing specialist. I'm certainly not either, but what I've learned over the last two years has catapulted my business into huge success and it's allowed me much more freedom in my life and business.

Would you like to be more automated in some of your processes in your business in order to give you more free time?

Think of all the new clients you could get, relationships you could cultivate and overall more money you could make if you really updated and automated your website to make it work for you, not just sit there.

So, ready to take action?

You can do one of three things the way I see it:

1. Contact your current web designer/developer - ask them these questions which might also stem into more then figure out how to maximize your site.

2. Hire a marketing Website consultation to get a better handle on where your site could be improved, how to get it there, who to contact to get it done and/or how to do it yourself to maximize your site, automate more in your business and make you more money!

3. Do nothing. Get the same results you've been getting and be content with it.
