The main purpose of this software tool is to find out how many advertisers there are for a particular keyword in Adwords. But there are quite a few ways you can use this software that you probably never even thought about…
Use it to block competitors
If you display Adsense ads on a commercial site that sells a product (as opposed to a content site) you probably don't want your competitors advertising there!
For example, if you have a site that sells cell phones, you don't want links to other sites that sell cell phones displayed. But you probably don't care if the ads are about ringtones or cell phone accessories because you don't sell them.
So how do you block only adds from cell phone retailers? Just put the keyword "Buy cell phone" into the software and it will list every advertiser who targets that word. When we tried it there were over 90 companies targeting that keyword! How long would it have taken to find that many competitors by hand?
Use it to research a niche
This is probably what most people use this software for. How much competition is there for a particular keyword?
This is valuable information because a keyword that has a lot of competition is almost always a high-paying topic! Why? Because if 50 companies are all bidding on the same keyword, they will have to bid more if they want their ad displayed in the top 8 spots on the front page of Google.
Conversely, if there are only 8 companies bidding on a keyword, they could all bid the minimum amount and their ad would still be displayed on the front page of Google.
Use it to convince sponsors to add your site
This is one of the coolest ways to use this software! We've kept this a very guarded secret until now!
A lot of companies that advertise on Adwords choose not to have their ads displayed in the Adsense network. This is because some feel like a lot of the sites displaying Adsense ads are junk.
But if you have a web site that is very professional and "advertiser friendly", you should try contacting sponsors directly and asking them to create a "Site-targeted Campaign" that includes your URL.
Site-targeted campaigns are a new feature of Adwords that let sponsors show their ads on certain web sites they like.
Just put a keyword into the software, copy the list of URLs it provides, and contact each of those sites directly with a friendly email!
Use it to block low-paying ads
We noticed that a lot of blogs and forums that display Adsense ads have a hard time making money because of all the low paying ads that show up.
For example, even if you have a blog that targets a high-pay keyword such as "Real Estate", you might only have ads that target the keyword "blog" show up.
The keyword "blog" pays very poorly but seems to show up a lot because the word "blog" is used a lot on the site.
You can block these low paying ads by putting blog related keywords (blog, blogger, blogging, weblog, etc) into the software and adding these sites to your Competitive Ad Filter in your Adsense account.
The same goes for forums. If you have a forum that targets Real Estate, you will probably also get a lot of ads for "forums". This is another low paying keyword that you don't want displayed on your site.
Use it to setup joint ventures
This is a little more advanced and doesn't have anything to do with Adsense… but it can help you make a lot extra money!
A joint venture is when two people or companies work together on a project or help each other promote their products.
Here's an example: You run a web hosting company and want to offer your services to web site designers. You can plug the keyword "Web Design" into the software and get a list of web designers who are advertising on Adwords. Then you contact them and say you will give them $20 for every client they refer to you. Since web designers have a lot of clients that need web hosting, they are the perfect people to setup a joint venture with!
Of course this works for things besides web hosting... you just have to use your imagination!
Use it to block unrelated ads
Google does a pretty good job of serving ads that are targeted to your sites content. But this isn't always the case…
Sometimes Google gets confused and places ads on your site that have absolutely nothing to do with your theme! This isn't good because your visitors are less likely to click on ads that they aren't interested.
Here's an example: You have a web site about programming languages. One of your pages is about the programming language called "Java". You notice Google is confused and thinks your web site is about COFFEE! What do you do?
Just put the word "Coffee" into the software and add the sites it lists into your Competitive Ad Filter. Now Google won't show ads about coffee on your web site!
Use it to find link exchange partners
This is a quick tip but exchanging links with similar sites is a great way to boost your rank in the search index.
You can use this software to find sites that are similar to yours and send a link request to them. And since they advertise with Adwords you know their site gets at least some targeted traffic!
Use it to report Adsense cheaters
We've actually used this software to help report an Adsense cheater.
The person was asking his friends to click on the ads on his site. We contacted Google directly but nothing was done about it. So what did we do?
We contacted all the sponsors who target that keyword and told them about it. One person we contacted was a large sponsor (think tens of thousands of dollars a month spent on advertising!) and when they contacted their Adsense representative, the cheater lost his account that same day!
Now obviously you should do this to help out other sponsors. This really isn't a money-making idea. But that large sponsor ended up getting a big refund from Google and they sent us a $250 gift certificate for Amazon.com!
Feel free to contact us if you can think of other creative ways to use our software!
How To Use Google Site
1) Google Analytics
Analytics is becoming more and more well known as a fantastic application to track and analyse visitors, trends, searches etc. All it requires is the insertion of a small html code generated by Google Analytics into your web template or the page you want to track. From the following day, a multitude of options to understand visits by city, which keywords have landed them on the site, which websites have sent traffic, which pages are most popular and how long they stayed there - just to name a few, will be available on your dashboard as you log in...used well, this is a great way to focus marketing funds as well as to correct weaknesses in the website in terms of retaining customers. The possibilities are endless and I have just listed a few - more at http://www.google.com/analytics/
2) Google maps
They are a great way of pinpointing hotel locations on your website http://maps.google.com/
3) E-mail with Gmail
While most corporate organizations as well as smaller companies have their own domains and e-mail set ups, managing their e-mails while traveling has always been a challenge. Gmail is a very flexible solution which allows you to respond with your domain e-mail provided you set it up that way. So even if one does not have company wide intranets and VPN dial ups, Gmail offers you a simpler way of responding to work e-mails while on the move. You can also pick up e-mails on gmail on your mobile phones as long as you have internet access. http://mail.google.com/mail
4) Blogger
While there are still discussions on the pros and cons of blogging, there is no doubt that if you are looking for one of the most user friendly blogging platforms, Blogger will come on the top of the list. http://www.blogger.com/
Wordpress is another blogging platform popular with the blogging community.
5) Google search
While this is certainly not news, very few people use Google search effectively. With the internet throwing up hundreds of thousands of new sites and blogs every day, the accuracy of the search becomes more and more relevant. Spending an hour to understand the mechanics of the search function on Google can save hours and hours of time when one needs quick access to relevant accurate information.
Just using quotes around the term you are trying to find gives you far more accurate and as well as better related results eg: "itb"Berlin, rather than itb Berlin on its own.
And of course there are more, Google documents, Google calendar, Google Picasa for managing images, Google Adwords etc
Google documents allow you to manage your documentation online, while the calendar function can be integrated and used with other calendar applications. Picasa is a very user friendly photo software which allows you to store, file, collate and share in one easy user interface.
So with all these powerful applications available free, there is certainly enough incentive to make them work for you.
