Be sure to rotate these items and not save them just for the next hurricane disaster. Reason being all came goods and dry goods have a shelf life. Typically that shelf life is not longer than one hurricane season anyway.

3) Make a emergency evacuation checklist of all the items your family may need if you are forced to leave your home for several weeks. Again this is a good rule of thumb for a potentially disastrous hurricane.

4) Plan several possible places for your children to meet with you should you ever not be together when facing a threatening hurricane. Typically there are several public shelters in every town or city. Be sure to check ahead of time of course. Public schools colleges are libraries may be another option. Again check ahead of time. Draw a simple map to five of these alternatives on a eight by five index card. Have those index cards laminated. You can also hole punch them to put a new child's school binder.
