Waxing has become one of the most requested services at salons across the country. Why? Compared to other hair removal methods, waxing is more affordable and very safe. If you have never experience waxing before, you are going to have some questions about what to expect. The following is a sample of questions most often asked before a schedule of body waxing is begun. The information applies whether you're planning to have your bikini, your back, face, or legs waxed.
Q. Do I have to let my hair grow out a little so the body wax can work?
For the best results, we normally like about a 2 to 3 weeks of hair growth or approximately 1/4". I know this may be uncomfortable, but the waxing process depends on enough hair to attach to in order to see good results.
Q. What do I need to know about getting my skin ready for waxing?
About 2 to 3 days before your waxing appointment, you need to keep in mind two things. Stay out of the sun and exfoliate. Do not do any sunbathing or have any sun exposure for 48 hours before your appointment. Also, two or three days before your scheduled waxing, you need to gently scrub the area to be waxed with an exfoliator. Be sure it's a mild exfoliator and you do not scrub too much. Then, on the day of the waxing, just cleanse your body as usual, without exfoliating, and rinse thoroughly, avoiding body products like lotions, deodorant, perfume, powders, and oils. These products must be avoided as they can cause discomfort and irritation to the skin during or after the waxing process.
Q. Does waxing hurt?
Well, we have to be honest here. Everyone has a different tolerance for pain, but the first time will hurt more than any other time. As you wax more regularly, you are removing less hair each time, and less hair means less discomfort. If pain or discomfort is a real concern for you, be sure to have a conversation with your esthetician before your waxing begins so that you can bring your concerns out in the open and receive some support. Please keep in mind that women should avoid waxing during their periods - the skin is most sensitive during this time. Avoid waxing any time your skin is under stress of any kind.
Q. Do I take my panties off if I'm getting a bikini line wax?
Your esthetician will have a disposable panty for you if you choose to be covered during your bikini line wax. Of course, estheticians are professionals and will treat you with respect. Before you begin the bikini waxing, discuss any confusion or discomfort you may be experiencing about the actual waxing procedure with your esthetician. You should agree beforehand on the bikini line you wish to wax so there are no mistakes made during the waxing to cause you and your esthetician discomfort. However, if at any time during the waxing you should become uncomfortable, you will want to stop the waxing and discuss your feelings with your esthetician. Don't be afraid to seek out a different esthetician if you feel that you are not receiving professional treatment at all times.
Q. Is there anything special I need to do to take care of my skin after waxing?
Avoid exposure to the sun or suntanning for at least 24 hours and do not use a tanning booth for at least 48 hours. You'll want to avoid any scented lotions, perfumes, powders, or basically any skin product that is alcohol based. The reason will become evident if you don't avoid these skin products; it will sting.
Q. Once I get into a routine, how long can I go between waxings without seeing hair?
It all depends on how fast your hair grows and if you are just starting your waxing routine. Some people may not be able to go longer than 2 weeks, while others can go as long as 6 weeks. However, the longer you have been on a regular waxing schedule, the longer each waxing will last. Hair grows in cycles which means it's appearing at different intervals. Each time you wax, you are only removing the hair that's made an appearance thus far; there are more hairs waiting underneath that will show up in the next few days. Because of that, it may take up to 3 waxing sessions to have all your hair growing in different intervals finally removed. So, your legs will probably not be smooth for about 3 waxing appointments. After that, you'll notice that you will be able to go longer between waxings without seeing hair.
So, is waxing the answer for you? You may not be sold yet, but ask yourself the next time you have to wear jeans instead of shorts or a skirt if you wouldn't be a little more relaxed knowing that you don't have to regret not shaving your legs... again. See if, when you're at the beach or pool, it wouldn't be a whole lot nicer to concentrate on the sun and fun without tucking the stray hairs back into your swimsuit bottom, hoping no one sees you. If you can rid yourself of your razor, and all the problems they cause, would you consider waxing? I think it's time to give your esthetician a call and make an appointment to chat a bit about the benefits of waxing.
I Know Your Body
When you are considering getting a body piercing, there are a quite a number of things that you need to keep in mind. One of the first things that you should consider is what kind of jewelry do you want when it the time comes. There are different pieces of jewelry that can be suited to different parts of your body, and you may even find that you have a body shape for one kind of jewelry but not another. While you should always consult with your piercer about what kind of jewelry you should have, keep the following points in mind.
The first thing that you should think about is material. While you may hear that any jewelry will be fine, keep in mind that the more nickel the jewelry has in it, the more likely it is that you may have some irritation. Many people are at least a little bit allergic to nickel, and you'll find that if this metal sits in a open piercing that you will have a much harder time healing it. Getting jewelry that is made out of steel is much better for your skin and for your healing piercing. You'll also find that you can get jewelry made out of niobium, which is also fairly non-reactive.
When considering what kind of body jewelry you want, you should also consider gauge. The gauge is the diameter of the piercing that goes through your body, and you'll find that different places will vary regarding what gauge they pierce at. If you get your piercing done with a gun and have an earring literally shot into your earlobe, you'll find that that ends to give you a piercing at an 18 gauge. Most piercing places will actually prefer to pierce you at a 14 or 12 gauge, which will leave you with a very slightly larger hole, but less chance of it tearing out.
When you are considering your body piercing jewelry, remember that at the beginning, it should be all about what your body will heal the fastest. There's nothing saying that you can't switch the jewelry out later. Just remember that your body will need to heal after it has essentially had an open wound put into it, and before you try anything really fancy, give your body a chance to get used to it. You'll find that the right jewelry can make things a great deal easier on you all around!
