When you're sawing logs at night and are tired of being exhausted during the day, you're probably interested in finding a cure for snoring. A quick search of the internet will bring up about a hundred different cures for snoring, but most of them are utterly useless. While humidifiers may make your throat less dry and scratchy in the morning, they haven't been proven to reduce snoring. Herbal teas as cures have no scientific backing and I'm sure the old wives' tales I keep coming across are even worth trying. That said, there are certain things you can do to reduce snoring that are both easy to implement and effective.



The best cure for snoring is also the most simple. All you have to do is get the offending sleeper to roll over onto his or her side. When you sleep on your side, your tongue naturally wants to go with gravity, towards the side of the mouth. This means that it isn't resting against the back of your throat, vibrating and causing noise. If that doesn't work, you might want to go to your local drug store and pick up some of those nose strips. They're less than $10 per box, and all you have to do is place one across your nose. This helps to clear the airway from the nasal passages to the lungs, thereby reducing snoring.

It neither of these things work as a cure for snoring, you might need to go see your doctor. From there, he or she will recommend a dentist who specializes in snoring. Unless you have good insurance, this can be very costly. The dentist will fit you for a custom made mandibular advancement splint that will gently push your jaw out and encourage your tongue to stay away from the back of your throat. These can cost upwards of $3,000, so I recommend trying every other option available before resorting to the device.
