A frequent dog complaint is ringworm, and it can be avoided and cured if your dog has the infection. If the pet has the lesion, trimming the hair around the area is needed, but do not touch the lesion or the infection will spread. Apply a topical anti fungal treatment after trimming the hair away. Such anti fungal treatments like miconazole and lotrimin treatments are applied for this purpose, or you get the option to use natural, side effect free alternatives. You mustn't let the dog lick the area where you administer the treatment. A dog funnel collar might be needed to stop the pet from reaching the area.

If the treatment doesn't cure the infection on its own, anti fungal shampoos and anti fungal dips will assist the treatment, and help the infected patch to heal faster. Some other anti fungal agents are griseofulvin and itraconazole, which treat dogringowrom quite well.

Keeping your pet in perfect health and guarded from fungal, viral and bacterial infections is your responsibility. The most important need of the pet is proper care and regular vaccines. Dogs need vaccines against provirus, distemper and rabies. Dogs also need to be checked annually for heartworm which can result in death to the dog if not properly prevented. Remember that rabies jabs are given every two years and distemper jabs are received annually.
