Indoor Plants And Flowers

    View:
While apartment or condo living may have its advantages, and is all but a necessity in packed major cities and congested areas, one of the major drawbacks for someone used to living in a house or similar structure, aside from the lack of space, is the lack of an outdoor patch of green to call their own. Gardeners especially, who would be more than content with just a tiny patch of soil to churn and care for will feel out of sorts cooped up in an apartment. Short of offering your gardening services to the landlord, what is one to do?

Your burning gardening desire can be sated somewhat by working on an indoor garden. Sure it's not quite the same as sitting on the soft earth with the hot sun beating down on your brow, but it beats the alternative, that being artificial plants or none at all.

There's nothing wrong with having one or more plants in every room, so you could certainly have a good deal of work and future gardening upkeep ahead of you if you wish. Plants will add a charming touch to every room, improve the air quality, and can even provide a different fragrance for each room, one suited to that particular room and its atmosphere.

Choosing which rooms to place specific plants in will always depend on the room's humidity, average temperature and amount of either direct or indirect sunlight. Be sure you in advance the kind of environment each plant on your radar will thrive in and place it in an appropriate environment. Apartments and condos will have rooms with largely similar environments, though full bathrooms will always be far more humid perfect for indoor plant care.

Beyond just plants, you can also get creative and add touches like dried plants or flowers to a room. Dried lavender for example provides a pleasant aroma that can last for weeks, and adds a unique look when tied in bunches and displayed.

Another unique touch is by adding a small herb garden to your kitchen. It may not quite make up for the lack of a vegetable garden, but it will add that perfect touch to your dishes and some will provide a nice aroma to your kitchen as well.

You have a lot of options when it comes to indoor gardening. It may slightly lack that connection with nature you get when gardening outdoors, but the process can be just as enjoyable and rewarding indoors.
Indoor Plants And Flowers
Houseplants are an affordable and simple way to add new life and style to a room, and also add an emotional lift when viewed that can brighten someone's day. They can also be a great way to introduce a young child to the wonders of life, and give them their first chance to care for that life. This can be a great tool to teach patience and accountability to a child. One of the great things about plants is that they have so many varying qualities and eccentricities that they truly are all unique life forms.

Many plants exist that require very little care at all, and can survive under broad conditions. Others will have some very exacting requirements that will need to be met for them to maintain their health. Water and sunlight are the two major factors that influence plant health, while others may depend on these factors and others such as soil quality.

Other qualities that differ between plant species are their rates of growth. Some plants may grow so rapidly that they'll need to be re-potted weekly, and no, you can't cheat by just sticking it in a huge pot to begin with. Others may show no noticeable signs of growth or change for years.

Some plants will flourish during certain seasons and wither or wilt during others, while other plants will have the opposite cycle. Many indoor plants will live year-round as well.

In addition to common plants seen in many households, there are a wide variety of exotic plants that can be both beautiful and dangerous. Carnivorous plants are a sight that will leave many quite awed the first time they see them, and make for nice little insect removers. Flies will nary know what hit them, or rather ate them.

Like all living things, there's a natural balance in the world, and everything has both strengths and weaknesses. Plants are no different, and most are susceptible to some problem or other, be it mites, aphids or other plant calamities.

The highest cause of plant casualty though is the simple act of not properly caring for them, namely caused by under-watering or over-watering them and the arboricola is no different. The important thing is to know how often your plant needs water and how much, and make sure you're following those guidelines. Don't leave it up to your own intuition or base it on other factors, such as the look of the soil, which can be misleading.

Mastering the basics may lead you to want to expand on your gardening craft by making new plants from the seeds or cuttings of old ones. This can take the feeling of caring for life one step further, to a realm that is truly satisfying. You'll need to make use of fertilizer with new plants, and ensure it's receiving adequate sunlight and nature should take its course.

Plants are truly a gift that can give in many ways, and keep on giving through their offspring as it is. Inviting nature into your home is one of the best things you can do for you and your family.
