There are no surefire ways to beat the game of Blackjack on each and every hand. If tips like these existed, Sin City would be out of business in a matter of months. There are, however, a few strategies that can be used to better your chances of going home the winner of the hand.



The name of the game is Blackjack or 21. Many players feel the need to hit 21 on every hand and that is the worst choice if they want to win. The number 21 is a fabled fluke that will hit naturally once in a while. This hand is not one to be aiming for. The player need only aim to beat the dealer and not the odds.

Beat the dealer. If the dealer busts, you win. Almost all tables will contain the rule that the dealer must hit on soft 17. This is a vital piece of knowledge, since you can deduct that no matter what the dealer has for his face down card, if his face up card is six or lower he will be forced to take a third card.

Assume that the dealer has a ten for his face down card, as his chances of having a card with the value of 10 is greater than any other value. If the dealer's up card is a six, five, or four; he has a greater chance of busting since he would need a 7 or lower value to avoid the bust. With all the cards in the deck, he has about a 45% of drawing a card that would prevent him from busting, and only a 30% chance of not having to draw another card.

If the up card is seven through ten, asuming that his down card is a ten, it is in your interest to hit, trying to land somewhere ahead of 17. Though it is never advisable to hit on 15 or higher, as your chances of busting are greater than 50%. If the dealer is showing a 7 or higher, and you have a 14 or lower; hitting is in your interest.

If the dealer is showing a two or a three, Blackjack rules force him to take at least one more card. In this case he has a better chance of hitting 18 through 21, though not higher than 50%. But he only has a 30% chance to bust and a 20% chance of needing drawing 2 cards. In this instance it is again in your best interest to hit on 15 or below.

The only surefire way to win at the game of Blackjack is to quit while ahead. The more greedy the player is the more apt they will be to walk away a loser, rather than a winner. The more you push the hand the better the chances that the house will take back the winnings from the player.
