Been thinking about getting an SUV, such as a Ford Explorer? This may be a bad time to think about getting an SUV. The Explorer is a nice vehicle with a nice look and a lot of features, but it is not as economical as many other vehicles. You may want to consider getting a mid-size or compact car instead, if you are going to be using your vehicle for regular commuting.



For trips, as an extra vehicle, a Ford Explorer or other SUV can be a nice choice. It is quite roomy and convenient for a lot of uses, such as taking on a camping trip. It is also useful for taking hunting, fishing, or even to a drive in movie theater.

An SUV can be great for long trips out of town or even out of state. But keep in mind the expense of gassing up a vehicle of this type. If you can fit your things and passengers into a smaller vehicle as an alternative, you can save a lot in gas money and also save on emissions (larger vehicles are famous for being worse for the atmosphere and environment).

Nowadays, most environmentalists would suggest having two mid-sized vehicles, or one mid-sized and one compact. They would also recommend that one or more of the vehicles be a hybrid or be run solely on a non-gasoline based system (such as electric or hydrogen).

You may have the money to spend on the extra gas, but it is your duty as a citizen to do your part in keeping the green initiatives at heart. If we all work together and avoid SUV's (such as the Ford Explorer mentioned earlier), the world can be a cleaner more economically efficient place, and vehicle manufacturers will be more pressed to move towards hybrid and other alternative vehicle types.
