Fashion has always been about looking toward nature - for inspiration - but has a long history of not being good to nature. In years past, ostriches were killed mercilessly for plumes, whales hunted to near extinction to produce such products as whalebone corsets, and leopards were routinely killed to create coats, hats, and all manner of true 'animal print.'
Arguments still rage about the use of products from animals and corporate farms - not to mention products made under poor conditions for humans. However, an increasing number of designers are looking back to the earth to make products that are enjoyable for those who live on the planet now, but will be safe for those who inherit it from us.
Of all of these design houses, one of the greatest success stories is Nudie Jeans Co., a nine-year-old Swedish company. Nudie Jeans, a line of comfortable, stylish denim for men, works hard to ensure that all of its suppliers provide responsibly developed products.
Available from top Internet fashion boutique Glamway24 (), Nudie Jeans require all of its suppliers to comply with a hard-driving code of conduct that - if all design houses were to adopt it - could make the world a more beautiful place for us and for our children.
'Smart clients know that being stylish and earth friendly go hand in hand,' said Glamway24 president Gilda Barabino. 'Our customers love the fact that Nudie Jeans makes some of the hottest jeans around, and do it while being good to the earth and to the people who make them.'
Nudie Jeans insists that everyone with whom the company does business - from cotton growers to its own employees - be concerned about human rights, wages, working hours, and social accountability.
The company subscribes to the principles put in place by Amnesty International, the worldwide organization first founded in 1961 that promotes human rights for all.
According to Amnesty International's Web site, 'all companies have a direct responsibility to respect human rights in their own operations. Their employees and other people with whom they work are entitled to rights such as freedom from discrimination, the right to life and security, freedom from slavery, freedom of association, including the right to form trade unions, and fair working conditions.'
In past years, a number of apparel companies have come under fire for producing products in sweatshop or other unfavorable situations. Violations have included poor working conditions for employees, infringement of child labor laws, and the use of hazardous machinery or chemicals in production.
Concerns for garment workers were first brought to the forefront with the 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York City. In that fire, 148 garment workers were killed by fire, flames, or jumping to their deaths to escape the disaster.
In 1995, the world was horrified to learn of a sweatshop in El Monte, California. Seventy-two Thai garment workers were held as slaves - some for as long as 17 years - sewing clothes for some of the world's top retailers. The workers, who labored for as many as 18 hours a day, worked and lived in filthy conditions and were monitored at all times by armed guards.
However, with the advent - and obvious success - of such design houses as Nudie Jeans, it's obvious that the environment and the socially conscious can co-exist with great fashion.
With the philosophy that a pair of jeans should be like a personal skin - naked and personal - Nudie uses only the finest materials to produce its fabulous designs. Good to the earth also means good to your skin - a factor that has endeared the Nudie Jeans brand to rock stars, actors, and other celebrities.
'Having Nudie Jeans at Glamway24 is both an opportunity and a privilege,' said Barabino, who says that Nudie Jeans have consistently been a top seller at her Internet boutique. 'This company proves that the world can be green and fashionable at the same time.'

Tarot cards consist of 21 cards for every suit. Many parts of Europe use the deck to play games, but this is less favorite in English speaking countries where the deck is commonly used for divination.Tarot cards pinpoint their past events back in the 14th century. Speculation denotes that they were founded in Islamic countries, but the rudimentary documented news of them is when they were banned in the dominantly Christian area of Bern, Switzerland. Early tarot decks, despite, advertised only sixteen trump cards, as compared to the twenty-one that are featured in current decks.
Tarot cards are separated into one major arcana and five suits, namely: The Major Arcana, The Suit of Wands, The Suit of Coins, The Suit of Cups, and the Suit of Swords. The suits are separated as well. Their points? worth and specific meanings are determined by being one of Oudlers/Trulls, Kings, Queens, Cavaliers, Jacks, or Others. Oudlers and Kings have the same value; the others from Queens to Jacks are worth one point less than their predecessors.Despite this, the English-speaking world pays more attention to the divinatory meanings of the cards, which will be tackled in the next area.
Every card has a variant meaning, depending upon what the card's suit is, and if it is part of the Minor or Major Arcana. Every one of of the Tarot cards are numbered, so each card serves a reader with a specific numerological value which can be interpreted while divination practices. Furthermore, the meanings of the cards evolve depending upon where the cards appear in a reading, as well as what kind of card layout is used. The cards are read both singularly and together to get a complete reading. The better well known layouts are the three card spread and the Celtic Cross.
Face to face tarot readings are interactive in a beliefs that the reader allows the individual to determine which face down card is interpreted by the reader. Face to face readings are commonly found in the boulevards of multitudinous diverse locales in the English-speaking world. In England, there is a going rate of ?12.50 per person, but the price drastically decreases depending on the number of members of public paying for the service. Some offer the service in the comfort of one's own home, while some offer it on the street for cheaper rates as well. There is a purist belief that face to face readings are significantly more accurate than other types of readings such as e-mail readings or phone readings, but of course the general destiny of these beliefs is to be completely unfounded like all other astrological arguments.
Telephone readings are generally more available than the street readings. A simple Google search will provide one with more options than one can normally locate in the local avenues. These readings are available for more or less ?5.00 per reading.Phone readings are generally cheaper because being online the tarot card readers may appeal to a larger audience, and through which they do not display to over charge, as there is no lack of clients. There is, after all, a drawback to phone readings: a lack of mystique. According to tarot card purists, again, phone readings are less effective than the typical face-to-face reading. Unfounded as this argument may be, it is enough to sway reading prices lower, and for those who believe in astrology, this may mean a whole lot. This industry is largely encouraged by the enlargement of online communication. While history services show only been for local phone lines or party lines, the Internet has encouraged a large market extension in tarot card readings over the phone.
Tarot cards demonstrate been around for centuries and show been used in multitudinous cultures for the purposes of divination. There are a medley of card layouts, and there are many variant card reading methods that card readers use. The interpretation of Tarot Cards is based on the card position and the assorted symbols in each card.
