Is this the start of the end? Have we taken the first steps down a slippery slope where we all see our freedoms regulated much more closely?
It has been the authors and users ability to have free speech coupled with the speed at which this content could be placed online for millions to see which has been the corner stone of blogging and social networking.
As a blogger I am concerned that if we start seeing governments and regulatory bodies becoming involved in the "policing" of our content and blogs off the back of these events how will our hand be tied.
We all have a moral and social responsibility to manage or little bits of internet real estate in an acceptable way. Too often I see people online who forget that it is the World Wide Web and post stuff that they would not be happy for there mom to see.
Do I need to get a grip as I am over reacting or will this mushroom out of control resulting in us all losing the hard earned online incomes we have come to enjoy?
We all strive to harness the awesome communication power of the internet but forget that this can easily work against us. The smallest rumour can become gospel overnight if enough people post it online with dramatic results; not all ways good.
I am only a small fish in a very big sea but I call upon all the Big Fish out there in the blogosphere to set an example and show the world that we can be trusted to manage our own affairs.
I might just be getting my knickers in a twist about nothing but at least we should take note that if event online are being picked up buy offline news then things may be out of our control. We must be able to show we can keep our house in order.
