I recently read an article on Lap Band surgery. There was a five year study done which shows LAP BAND has significant benefits over Lap RNYG. Perhaps more important to an average Lap Band Los Angeles or New York patient is that it is less invasive and less risky.



The study concludes:

?LAP-BAND? patients have shorter operative time, less blood loss and shorter hospital stay compared with laparoscopic gastric bypass patients

?LAP-BAND? is less invasive with less operative risk to the patient

?LAP-BAND? patients have decreased complication rates

If you are a typical SoCal resident, you would have seen the ubiquitous hoardings espousing the virtues of Beverly Hills lap band surgeries. Suddenly there is a lot of demand in Bariatric Surgery Los Angeles centers. But even with lower risk, it is still a major surgery and needs to be though as such. Always research the surgeon who will do the surgery and know that this is an option when diet, exercise and other form of weight reduction fail and should be kept for the significantly obese.

I asked a Los Angeles Lap Band surgeon about the procedure, and he mentioned that in long term (more than 5 years) there may be no difference laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and LAPBAND. Gastric Bypass has so much more complications that it seems intuitive that LAP BAND is here to stay.
