These printers employ a xerographic printing process which differs from the analog photocopiers in which the images are produced by the direct scanning of a laser beam across the printer's photoreceptor. Unlike impact printers, laser printers can print over 200 monochrome pages per minute and the fastest colour laser printers can print over 100 pages per minute.
