One persons junk is another persons treasure. That in essence is what made eBay the powerhouse that it is today. People discovered that there others out there who are willing to spend money on the things that they no longer want. Things that would have been thrown out in the garbage wind up in the hands of collectors who consider them treasure. That in essence is why thrift stores make such a great source for items to learn how to sell on eBay. A thrift store is just a place that people can take their unwanted items and every day millions of people do. Much of that clutter is name brand clothing that is in big demand on eBay.
Now, most of the clothing items in thrift stores are not going to sell on eBay. These are the common names that you can find by the thousands. Names like Faded Glory, Croft & Barrow and Sonoma just are not in demand because they are not a bigger name brand and they are carried everywhere. But there are other names like Ralph Lauren, North Face and Lacoste and many more that are in demand on eBay. These are brands that the manufacturer spent tens and hundreds of millions of dollars over the years building a brand name that people want to own.
Brand names have a certain status symbol, better quality and functionality of lesser brands. People want these brands but also want a bargain. They look on eBay to find those bargains. They also want vintage clothing and harder to find names and styles. This is the market that you are after, but first you must know what it is they want and are looking for.
This is the key to selling on eBay, knowing what names people are looking for.
Thrift stores are filled with thousands and thousands of pieces of clothing. Only a small percentage will be worth buying to sell, but they ARE out there. You just have to hunt them out. And the way to know what to hunt for is by being well prepared by first studying what people want. This takes some time but is worth it or you will just waste your time and money by buying stuff nobody wants. That isn't any fun. What is fun is when you find an item you KNOW will sell on eBay. This is because you know the market and have done your research.
The only way to know what to look for is by studying closed auctions on eBay. You MUST get to know different categories of clothing and what sells and what is in demand like jeans, sweaters and jackets as well as the gender group like mens, womens, boys or girls. Keep a notebook of all your searches. As you go on, you will start to see patterns emerge of certain names that are in demand. You also will gain knowledge and start to find more and more items that sell at a very nice profit on eBay. Your thrift store is full of them, you just have to be selective by being well armed with knowledge when you go into your local thrift store.
What is unknown is how much your items will sell for. That is the brilliance of eBay, it is an auction. The price is determined by the market and how determined each individual bidder is. This is great for you because the sky is literally the limit for some items. I have seen sweaters sell for $1,500 even $2,000. Leather jackets like East West Musical Company can sell for many hundreds of dollars and even old Red Wing boots can sell for $300.There are collectors who will bid what it takes to add something to their collection and clothing is something there are rabid collectors out there waiting to find the next piece to their collection. Think about that when you research closed auctions on eBay.

Mexico has always been at the top of the list when it comes to Beverage Consumption. You see, Mexico is on the top of the list of most beverage categories when talking consumption per capita and as a nation.
Superstores, supermarkets and convenience stores give beverages number 1 priority in shelve space. When you go into some of these stores you see how different the beverage shelves look.
Last week I took several CEO's from international marketing firms to Mexico City to some of these retail chains. Their first comment was "Wow, look at all this soda"! I'm talking about pallet after pallet on the retail floor filled with soda, water, tea, new age beverages, water and every type of beverage you can imagine. Not just in Pallets, shelve after shelve filled with beverages not just 6 feet tall, in some hallways up to 12 feet tall.
Beverage exports to Mexico are underrepresented with a mere $147,000,000 per year being exported from the USA to Mexico. This shows a Trade Deficit of $2 Billion Dollars in Beverage worth of good. Now, this is the "declared value" and not wholesale or retail value of goods, that's much higher.
Selling beverages to Mexico is easier than ever, especially exporting from the USA. Mexico is the #1 importer of US products in the world. There is a need for all types of products including energy drinks, beer, water, flavored water, wine, soda and spirits.
Yes, Coca Cola (FEMSA) is in Mexico as is Pepsi Cola, Nestle and other very large companies, the largest, that is. But that's it. Nobody of the other US or European beverage players are there. We're talking a growing, emerging economy of $1.3 Trillion US dollars. We're talking the gate to the rest of Latin America, the third largest economy in the world!
The Beverage Industry and all Beverage Companies have to make Mexico their number 1 priority. It has all the ingredients of a great customer. It has a great infrastructure including roads and ports to ship truckloads of products, many beverage distributors selling to supermarkets and convenience stores and more than 500,000 stores willing and able to buy new products throughout Mexico.
Mexicans are so eager to buy that they come to the USA looking for products instead of waiting around for someone to call them and sell them something. They visit US trade shows, organizations and many companies. I constantly have someone in San Diego visiting from Mexico to speak with me on how they can find products of all kinds to export.
Who's looking for new beverages? Mainly wholesale distributors and large retailers. They are looking for beverages to sell in retail stores or to other distributors in Mexico, most of the time they will buy truckloads and export them to Mexico themselves, handling the shipping, imports and tariffs.
All you have to do is travel through the halls of Wal-Mart or Costco in Mexico to see how many products are still missing in the shelves. Products available in the USA in every single city.
Why do they do this? Why are they so eager to buy US drinks? Simple, they don't have Mexican made products they can sell and they want to be the first to carry a new American beverage. Beverage Distributors know the potential for new products in Mexico. After that they just restock their customer's shelves and refrigerators.
Mexico should be number 1 on the "To do list" of every small, medium and large Beverage Company in the world. If it's not in your list, quickly, write it in with pen, bring it to your next board meeting along with some of the facts listed in the article, sit back and look good!
