If you mistaken an acne papule and acne pustule it is because they look just about the same with their characteristic small and roundish lesions. Very much different to papules, pustules are severely inflamed and contain pus which sometimes can be highly visible. The pus in the middle of the acne makes it quite visible and this will give the whitish tinge and the surrounding skin will be red due to inflammation. Just because the acne is inflame does not really mean that there are high presence of bacteria in the pustule. This may also be caused by sebum.
