Lewis And The News

    View:
It is perhaps the most convenient way an Internet user can get his/her news on the Internet. Most of the major news organizations have online versions of their news on the Internet.

The Washington Post and the New York Times has articles from their newspaper online. The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) radio has transcripts of their radio bulletins online and Channel Nine of Australia has collaborated with MSN to jointly put up articles on the web.

Internet users have become net savvy enough to scour the web for alternative news sources. The Arab media company, Al Jezeera, has plenty of hits on its English news site, even though; it was lauded as anti-American by the Bush administration.

These are just some examples on how the news which internet users read online, are mostly from media companies which have already had their hand in the production of other forms of more traditional media before venturing onto the Internet.

Yet, with this in mind, it is not surprising that much of the information that an internet user reads from online news sites is mainly recycled information from these media organizations.

Those with the resources to produce their news segments in other forms of media, would also have the resources to run an online news site. The Washington Post has started charging for their articles to be read online, so that they can garner some revenue from their Internet media business, whilst the New York Times require their readers to register before they are permitted to read their articles.

Hence with the way internet news sites are evolving, there is really becoming only one way where the consumer can get hold of news from these organizations and that is to pay.
Lewis And The News
Far off the west coast of Scotland can be found a group of islands known as the Outer Hebrides (also known as the Western Isles). In total there are over 200 islands in the group with only a very small percentage are inhabited. The bulk of the population can be found in the town of Stornoway on the largest of the islands, the Isle of Lewis. This article will take a look at Stornoway hotels and accommodation.

The Outer Hebrides area one of the most interesting places in Great Britain and, if you are staying in Stornoway hotels, you must make a special effort to visit the standing stones at Calanais. Unfortunately this famous stone circle (or rather a set of stones in a cruxiform shape with a central circle) are some distance from the town but there is a local bus service that goes to and from the area once a day.

For a number of years now the areas Council has been busy replacing on road signs with bilingual ones displaying the main name in the native Gaelic language with a smaller English translation. This can be somewhat confusing as older guide books have different names for places. A typical example is the nearby iron age broch known as Dn Chrlabhaigh, which is well worth a visit after visiting the standing stones, which was previously, and more widely, known as Dun Carloway Broch on the Isle of Lewis.

Stornoway is the main administrative center for the Outer Hebrides and as such it has the most important amenities and facilities. This makes it the obvious first choice for a place to stay when enjoying a Hebridean vacation. While there are a number of small guest houses offering bed and breakfast the choice of Stornoway hotels is rather limited. Below you will find details of the main three hotels in Stornoway which can easily be booked online in a matter of minutes.

Long known as the finest hotel in Stornoway the Caberfeidh Hotel can be found on the outskirts of town just a few minutes from the center. With the Lews Castle grounds opposite and it's own lovely well kept gardens the Caberfeidh Hotel offers the most luxurious accommodation in Stornoway.

The largest hotel in Stornoway is the Caladh Inn, which is owned by the same group that own the hotel above. Found on the opposite side of town to the Caberfeidh the Caladh Inn is the most accessible hotel to Stornoway airport. The Caladh Inn is also just a few minutes walk from the town center and other important transport links such as the ferry terminal.

Finally we take a look at the best looking hotel in Stornoway, the Royal Hotel. Built in 1850 the Royal Hotel is Stornoway's most historic hotel retaining many period features (found in the front facing rooms). Found almost at the heart of the town the hotel's Boatshed Restaurant and HS1 Cafe are extremely popular eating places of excellent reputation. With superb views out over the harbour this is the hotel to stay in if you like to be close to the action while enjoying comfortable accommodation.

The Caberfeidh Hotel has a wonderful selection of function rooms suitable for all manner of events. Often used for wedding receptions and wedding dances the Caberfeidh now offers a 'complete wedding' service. However these function rooms are nearly always booked for a number of events such as business seminars, sales and dances. As most hotels now include and internet connection as standard these Stornoway hotels offer a wireless broadband connection along with all the other usual services to be expected.
