CD-ROM which is an abbreviation of "Compact Disc Read-only Media" is a disc that contains data accessible by a computer. While the Compact Disc format was originally designed for music storage and playback, the format was later adapted to hold any form of binary data. CD-ROMs are popularly used to distribute computer software, including games and multimedia applications, though any data can be stored (up to the capacity limit of a disc).

Although many people use lowercase letters in this acronym, proper presentation is in all capital letters with a hyphen between CD and ROM. This was not the intention of the original team who developed the CD-ROM, and common acceptance of the 'memory' definition is now almost universal. This is probably in no small part due to the widespread use of other 'ROM' acronyms such as Flash-ROMs and EEPROMs where 'memory' is the correct term.

DVD which mean "Digital Versatile Disc" and "Digital Video Disc" is a popular optical disc storage media format used for data storage. Its main uses are for movies, software, and data archiving. Most DVDs are of the same dimensions as CDs but store more than 6 times the data.

The term DVD is used in describing three ways that data is stored on the disks ? DVD-ROM has data which can only be read and not written, DVD-R can be written once and then functions as a DVD-ROM, and DVD-RAM holds data that can be re-written multiple times.

Online search boxes make it super easy to find exactly what you're looking for, even if you aren't sure who the artist is, what the song title is and only remember a couple lines from the chorus. Just want to watch all the movies with Johnny Depp in them? Then search his name and you'll have a huge selection to choose from!

? Browsing. When you want to just check out a new band or movie, most online stores make it easy to listen to music clips from each album. You can also view previews of new movies online. You don't have to wait for someone else to finish using the headphones and there's no time limit, you can spend all day listening or watching clips and previews.

? Gifts. If you're looking for the perfect gift for a friend or family member who doesn't live near you, buying online is the perfect choice. You can usually specify a different shipping address than billing address and even get your CDs or DVDs gift wrapped and with a card included. This makes those last minute shopping excursions far easier!

? Availability. Your local stores are only open so late. What if you want to buy the latest DVDs at 3 am? Not a problem with online stores, they're open 24-7. And, when local shops run out of the hottest music album, you can still get them online!

Buying CDs and DVDs online is a great way to go and many more people are choosing this method of purchasing over heading to the local shops. It's far more convenient and you'll find that you are able to enjoy your shopping experience a lot more. Plus, what could be better than doing all your birthday shopping from your computer at 1 in the morning?
