List Of Professional Sports

    View:
In America, the largest professional American football is the National Football League. It is made up thirty-two teams that come from American cities and regions. The league is made up of two conferences called the American Football League (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference is then divided into four divisions that are made up of 4 teams and the four divisions are called East, West, North and South.

A regular NFL season is sixteen games. The season is played from September to January. Each team is allowed to one week off. When the regular season ends, six teams play in tournament called the NFL playoffs. The tournament is a single-elimination, meaning that one team only has one chance to win. If they lose that one game, they are out of the tournament and get to rest, wondering how they can make it to the championship next year. The championship is called the Super Bowl and most Americans watch it on TV. They either watch it at home with their family or friends or at bars if they are feeling lonely. The championship is one of the biggest American TV events. The game is held two weeks after the last playoff game in city that has an NFL team or a popular college stadium. One year, it was held only one week after the last playoff game. The reason was because the league had stopped to honor the people who had died in the 9/11 World Trade Center tragedy. After the Super Bowl, one week later, the Pro Bowl is played between the NFC and the AFC. The Pro Bowl teams are made up of the best players in the league.

The schedule and the game in the NFL are very much controlled by TV. Nothing happens without it being documented by a TV camera. When the camera is off, there is no action in an NFL game. Game play only occurs in a game when the cameras are on. It is one of the major reasons that an NFL game is three hours long. By the clock, an NFL game should only be an hour and fifteen minutes. The game is divided into quarters that are only 15 minutes long. There is fifteen minutes for what is called a halftime. Every time there is some sort of break in the play, they go to a commercial. During the commercials, the players are not playing. The schedule is now being changed to make sure that the best teams play on Sunday night. They do not want the slaughters that usually occur on Monday nights when the weakest teams end up playing each other. Weak games mean that no will watch them. They want the strongest teams to play on Sunday night so they will do everything possible to make sure that there are good games on that night.
List Of Professional Sports
In the crazy economic times that we are currently living in I am wondering if the money and time spent on watching millionaires play sports is going to drop? I am talking about all sports here, Football both American and European, Baseball, Hockey, NBA car racing like Nascar, Formula 1 and many more. You have to think that most of us around the world are going to take a serious look at were are dollars are going. One of the easiest ways to reduce our monthly expenses is to remove those items that aren't necessities. Watching professional sports is one of them and the truth is before this recession hit most of us could not afford to go to a game anyways.

Most of us agree that a major portion of these athletes make way too much money for playing a sport most of us do for free. In fact most of us pay money to play these sports on the weekends. Past the fact that most of us have been avoiding live sporting events for years because of its price I wonder how many of the supporters will stop going to games?

Most analysts expect the slow down in the economy to last about 4-5 years before things get back to normal. Can major sports whether the storm? Do they provide enough value for what the fan gets in return. Most of us disagree and here's why, I will take a New York Knicks game for example, the average ticket is over $150 per person, then you have to get a hot dog and a drink and if you're lucky maybe an ice cream cone. This all adds up to roughly $60 for a family of four. You then have to factor parking/transportation which is going to be $20. For a family of four the total cost for one evening of NBA action is $700. Even if you have that amount of disposable monthly income is it even worth it?

Things are going to change that's for sure, I hope all of you athletes have done a good job investing your money. If I am right you'll be making a whole lot less in the near future!

My mother always taught me to find the positives in everything and this to me is going to be a big one, athletes' making less money. I think they should start paying these guys based on performance, I have to admit I do prefer the way golfers and the auto racing guys get paid. Win a race or a tournament and you get more money, the only part that pisses me off, the guy that finishes in last place usually makes more than I do in a year!
