Lake Lure was created when the Broad River was dammed by the Carolina Mountain Power Company in 1927. During ordinary levels, the lake is about 720 acres in size with about 27 miles of shoreline. Today the lake is still used as a main source of electricity, but it is also a common boating area for everyone who wants to come visit for the wonderful water skiing, boating and fishing that is offered year round.
