One's epicene relates to one's maleness and femaleness. One's gender character refers to the realisation one has of being masculine, feminine, both, or neither, and makes no reference to one's sexual orientation. It also does not relate to one's external attributes and form of behaving that society defines as masculine and feminine. This is commonly termed gender role and encompasses things like the mode folk attire, talk, and comb their hair. With multitudinous folk, their gender personality is in line with their anatomic sex and their inner feeling of masculinity and femininity. For most children early in their childhood, their gender personality is well established. As childhood progresses, boys generally know they are boys and girls that they are girls. In spite of society's epicene roles and sexual orientation, there exists, all the same, gender personality disorders which are inconsistencies between one's anatomic sex and their realisation of being masculine or feminine.

Cross-dressing is mostly practiced by trans-sexual men, although women show been popular to cross clothe. It is practiced by men donning the clothing consistently associated with the other epicene in a particular society. Every society has distinguished clothing for each epicene, but trans-sexuals run counter to these norms. There are miscellaneous kinds of cross dressing, and various reasons for an individual to exhibit cross dressing behaviour. Some citizens cross clothe just for personal style or emotional comfort and seem to naturally prefer to wear clothing that are associated with or marketed for the opposite sex. Some folk cross attire to shock others or to challenge the norm of society. In earlier times, both men and women cross dressed to hide their character and take up jobs that were meant for the other epicene. Folk who cross adorn for sexual fetish are called transvestic fetishists. Some men wear womanish undergarments under their male garments, and this is named underdressing.

A sex change operation, more commonly termed epicene reassignment surgery (GRS), or sex reassignment surgery (SRS), is the last stage of the bodily transition of a tranny or transsexual male-to female or female-to-manly. It is a surgical procedure that comprises the removal of the organs of one sex and the construction of gentials of the opposite epicene in its vicinity. A GRS surgery is sanctioned only once the surgeon is satisfied that the candidate is psychologically and physically eligible. A surgeon might refuse surgery for anyone with herpes, HIV, or any other specimen of venereal disease. The goal of manlike-to-womanly SRS is to create womanish sexual organs and includes the removal of penile muscle tissue and testicles. To enhance the overall femininity, thyroid cartilage reduction, the reshaping of the chin, forehead contouring, and rib removal are also practised.Feminine-to-manlike surgery involves building a penis and removing the breasts.

Times are changing, but perhaps not fast enough for many. In our society, it is quite acceptable for women to wear extremely feminine clothing these as skimpy dresses and skirts. It is also quite acceptable for them to wear functional clothing that includes jeans and jumpers. Boy fit jeans present also been introduced for women. This is all quite acceptable; be that as it may, it is not the case when it comes to men. Men cannot be seen to wear over colourful clothing. They cannot wear skirts. Due to the increase of folk being open about their identities, there has been movement to create laws to protect transsexual and trans gender individuals. Times are changing and with this so too are the laws. Trans-sexual rights are, however, still being argued.
