This is always the question when you are buying a teddy bear. First you have to decide what it is for? Do you want it to comfort you or a loved one? Do you want cuddly and soft? Do you want it just for show? Maybe it's for a collection. What ever you want the teddy bear for, there is a bear out there for you.



First there is the fur that you want it made from. If it is to comfort someone , it has to be soft and cuddly. This will be made of a soft plush faux fur in a soft or medium pile fur. The bear also needs to be stuffed in a manner that will be soft so that it can be hugged and soft to the touch. These soft and cuddly bears can also be made of a soft fabric and can be washed if necessary.

If it is just for show it can be made in a variety of fabrics. These can be a plush faux fur, mohair or even a fabric. These bears are usually stuffed in a more solid manner so they will stand the test of time.

After the selection of the type of teddy bear that you need, there is what kind of eyes, nose and any other embellishments that might be on the teddy bear.

For the eyes there are plastic and glass eyes. If it is for a small child the eyes and nose need to be of the locking type. Also check to see if anything else added to the teddy bear, such as buttons or ribbons, can be taken off by the child.

Teddy bears can be dressed or just left to be enjoyed on their own. When buying for a child they can be dressed in removable clothing in a cotton so that they can change the clothing. These hold up over time and can be washed. When buying for show or a collection, the clothing can be of any available fabric from very fancy down to a little cute cotton outfit.

Children love teddy bears because they are always a friend that can go anywhere with you. From being that friend that goes to bed with them every night to on a trip when no one else will pay attention to them. Also that teddy bear makes for a great pillow to lay the head on.

Adults even use teddy bears as comfort. There was an Irish study done, that showed that holding and cuddling a teddy bear relieves stress.

The last thing in selecting a teddy bear is, does it talk to you when you look at it. Does it say, ?Take me home.? because it can comfort you. Or does it say, ?I am just too cute to be left and you need me?. Maybe even, ?I am beautiful and would love to be in your collection?. What ever it says, there is always room for one more teddy bear.
